she was smart.

As days turned into weeks, our tutoring sessions continued. Ezekiel remains distant and cold, while I try my best to not to let him know that his words were doing a good job at getting to me.
He finishes another workpiece I gave him, sliding the notebook over to me. I quickly mark his work and slide it back to him. This is how our sessions went. He does the work. I mark. I didn't know what I was expecting, but it sure as hell wasn't this.
"I'm not coming in tomorrow." He said, his eyes trained on me with crossed arms.
"Why not?" I ask, then remember, "you have a match tomorrow. I forgot."
We sit in silence for a while before he breaks it. "We done?"
"Yeah sure—" I don't get to finish my sentence before he stands up and leaves again. I don't know how much longer I can take this. It's gotten to the point where I hated going to classes so I could avoid him.
Whether that makes me a bad tutor, I don't know.
I meet with Cameron during free period. "What are you doing?" I ask with a nose scruff.
Deliberately ignoring my question, he continues to spy using obnoxiously huge binoculars. "Shhh," he shushes me with a harsh whisper. "Daddy's got his eye on a prize."
"Okay, gross," My nose scrunches up in disgust. "Don't ever, and I mean ever, refer to yourself as daddy again."
"You're just a hater, Monroe."
I rolled my eyes but stayed by his side. I wasn't looking until he mentions Ezekiel being on the court. That was when I instantly crouched down alongside him, and took the binoculars out of his hands.
"I wasn't finished!"
I shake him off with a hand. "You can continue gawking at Kenzo later." I tuned his voice out, focusing the binocular vision on Ezekiel. I felt dirty. Like a stalker. Is that what I am?
