Richard drove close behind the ambulance, running every red light he could, making it fairly easy since everyone had to yield for the ambulance and their sirens. His 14 year old son, Aiden in the back, anxiously moving his legs up and down.
"Would you-" Richard began, before biting his tongue. "Don't worry, she'll be fine." He said. Aiden didn't respond.
They pulled into the hospital lot and Richard ran out of the truck, Aiden followed.
After the doctors set her up in a room in the ER, Richard just kept telling her it'll be fine. Unsure of what else to do.
The doctors had left the room, saying they would be watching her vitals through the monitor.
Aiden opened the door, Richard looked up at him.
"Hey, what'd we talk about, you shouldn't be in here." Richard said
"She's my mom." Aiden said angrily. After sitting in the hallway for what felt like forever, he didn't care what his dad said anymore
Richard opened his mouth to argue back, but Marlene had already started to speak.
"Come in kid, I've missed my boy." She said hoarsely
Aiden stepped in, running to her side
"So? You're gonna be fine right?" Aiden said, voice breaking
"Oh, of course dude. I'll be alright. Jensen's always get back up, right?"
Aiden chuckled tearfully "Right." He smiled
"How're the drums going?" Marlene asked Aiden
"Alright, been trying to learn more Guns N Roses. Since they're your favorite."
"Oooh good, but don't give up on that one band- what was it? Paramore?"
"Yeah, they're just too much for my skill level."
"Ah," She stopped him. "what'd we talk about? No doubting yourself. You can do it kid, I believe in you." She said, weakly "Love you, kiddo."
Aiden nodded, holding on to his moms hand
Aiden heard some beeps, he looked at the tech surrounding them. Not knowing what any of it meant. But it couldn't have been good.
Doctors came rushing in. Instructing Aiden out of the room. Tears fell from Aiden's face as doctors shouted commands around the room. He took one last look at his mother before the door the room shut in front of him.
