Opening Notes

Important: Reader discretion is advised for mature themes that I will not explicitly state here for fear of spoilers. The book can get raw and heavy.

Please do not take this story at surface value only: symbolism, subtext, complex characterization, and motivations are all present. What characters say may not reflect the reality.

I hope you'll at least read to chapter 7 when the story begins ramping up.

The book is quite subtle so please be mindful when you read. Some parts of the book are deliberately confusing and will make sense later on.

This story will have homophobic aspects. Character beliefs etc. are not necessarily my beliefs.

As this is a gay story, I would like to humbly ask homophobes to leave. I don't really want to see any hateful comments toward anyone, meaning no rude comments towards religion as well. There's a lot of intersectionality between the two. Religion and the lgbt community aren't in a binary; there's no strict dichotomy.

Also the song "Heart" had a large impact on the emotional tone of this book and is linked above, swipe right on the picture to see for mobile devices. And if you really like the song, there is also a Liberation playlist under the same user "seiaphe" on Spotify. It is linked in my profile under my bio.

While character ethnicities were kept in mind during writing, they will not be explicitly stated to allow for connection to the book across various cultural contexts. The book will try to use more universal struggles.

The maturity level of this story is to be determined. (scenes with intercourse are undecided)

Although the story is in the modern world and is heavily inspired by the United States, particularly NYC: it's in a made up country with made up rules and made up characters.

This story shares similarities to Melfernes and Infernius. However it is completely unrelated and you do not need to read Melfernius and Infernius to understand this story.

Generally the story will be sort of serious — while it won't be loaded with tropes — it will have some tropes that I find funny.

True to its namesake, this story will be liberating, something I won't hold to a perfect standard.

Still, this story is quite refined and will have more serious parts later on that I'm pretty proud of. Overall, read this if you want a story with realistic characters: that's relatively serious, a bit lighthearted, and occasionally cringey. (i reevaluated my life choices a few times while writing this)
