8| Deal with the Dead?
He had collected these beauties, each one becoming a thoughtful painted brushstroke on his perfectly curated tapestry of life.
A small familiar tug grew at his lips.
He soon walked back, tired, but at least drunk on the beauty of the world.
...Life wasn't all bad.
Reaching his apartment, he didn't bother to clean the newly broken bottles that littered the floor. He didn't even turn on the room lights; he collapsed onto his bed.
Luckily, nobody but him was home.
He rolled around a bit and used his arm to cover his eyes. Sleep and stillness always suited him better. But unfortunate familiar thoughts soon came.
He sighed, then, like a small child excited to open a birthday present, he gathered his things: the fox charm and the family photo he had found previously.
As he sat on his bed, he gazed down at the photo — his hands ran over the cool glass.
Silence filled the room.
However it wasn't long before light invaded his sight. Liam had just gotten home, opened the door and spilled light into the room.
A single tear fell, and free from its glass frame, the picture beneath grew wet.
Elliot viciously wiped his eyes and grinned, "It's so annoying when you cry after yawning."
"Yeah," Liam replied.
"I need to go to the bathroom for a bit."
"Alright," Liam smiled as he climbed to his top bunk, luckily unaware of what just happened.
Elliot hid the photo beneath his bed and dashed out of the room when a soft phrase followed him out, "I love you, Elie."
Slightly surprised by Liam's declaration, Elliot rushed out a, "Me too," before he got to the bathroom.
He then splashed cold water on his face and stared at his reflection.
Why am I crying so much?
He slapped his cheeks and soon saw his reflection smiling back.
Finished, he got to work cleaning the mess his dad had made last night and then prepared dinner.
After Liam and him ate, Elliot did the dishes and began his homework. One mistake wasn't going to destroy him.
By the end of the day, he had gotten over another one of his little slumps.
He even completed his homework by midnight.

A little after he was done with his night routine, he noticed his dad hadn't gotten home yet.
