14| Scintillating Skies; Bitter Breathe

"How about we get some coffee then? And break the ice?"

"Alright, that sounds nice."

...That sounds horrible.

He had nothing against Devon, it was just awkward not knowing the correct social etiquette that someone like Devon knew.

This week was already getting too long.

The elevator let out a short chime before the doors opened and Elliot found himself in the cafeteria again.

The windows were still bright and vibrant, the warm late afternoon sun shining down into the room, spilling golden pools.

The two lined up at a small cafe in the center of the cafeteria.

"What would you like to drink, Elliot? I'll order."

Why is everything so expensive... this cafe isn't covered by my financial aid. He sighed internally.

"I'll have what you get, I'm trying to open my horizons," Elliot smiled.

I just want an iced coffee...

"So you're someone that likes to broaden their horizons?" Devon smiled.

   "I try here and there."

When the two arrived at the front of the line Devon ordered, "Hey Charlotte, I'd like two Hawaiian Kona coffee's for here please. I'll pay by card."

"Of course, Devon" the barista, apparently named Charlotte, smiled, mildly flirtatiously.

Elliot looked at the menu to check price. Twelve dollars for a cup of coffee!?? What are they putting in this??

Charlotte began making the coffee, taking her sweet time to have some small talk with Devon while Elliot waited awkwardly on the side.

Once she finished, Charlotte handed over the coffees before Devon and Elliot walked to find an empty table.

The two made their way to a table adjacent to the window, the warm sunlight slightly stung Elliot's skin.

"Nice weather, huh?" Devon looked out the window, into the vast bright blue sky.

"Yeah, it's beautiful it doesn't even look like it rained a few days ago," Elliot remarked and looked out the window as well, watching the same blue.

"The sky always looks better after it rains," Devon hummed back.

"Yeah... it really does," he then turned his gaze down, into the dull gray of the city.

"Anyway, you should try the coffee, it's best warm."

"Alright, thank you for the recommendation," he opened the top and took a small sip. It tasted sweet, floral, a bit fruity, smooth and refined; it suited Devon well.
