That's what I've wanted to hear for a week. And finally the time has come. "Really?" I ask, just to be sure. She nods, "Yes, the council just confirmed that. You can take one person with you if you want." Out of the corner of my eye, I see Keefe pointing at himself. Marella looks at him: "I don't think she'll take you." Why not? So far he's stood by me the most. And this would be the perfect moment to hand him over...

But I can't let him think I need him: "If you can give me a reason why you should be there, then you can come. But only then." Marella comes closer and asks me in a whisper, "Are you sure you want to take him with you?" I shrug, "Why not?"

Keefe has watched us both attentively and now says firmly: "Because you need me." A cold laugh escapes my lips: "And why do you think that?" That's really absurd. "Just now it seemed you needed me most." I just hate him, he always seems to find the most sensitive topics. "Uuuh, what happened?", Marella looks curiously between us.

"Nothing that matters," I say quickly, giving Keefe a glare. Marella raises an eyebrow at Keefe, who immediately explains, "Well, we just had detention and Sir Andoin gave us the toughest task of ours Life. We had to name various starlights and to find the corresponding star and give the coordinates to it. Sir Andoin was already waiting for a way to embarrass Devil. And I gave it to him by tricking her it to naming one of her bottles " Hunkyhairs Empire". Because Devil carelessly copied everything I told her, she didn't even notice it, until it was to late."

Keefe waves his hands in the air, adding a touch of drama to the whole thing. Marella looks at me confused and asks, "And why would she do that?" Oh no, I knew what was coming, so I try to cover his mouth. But since he's bigger and stronger, he could easily prevent it: "Because she doesn't know anything about it, she doesn't even know how to hold a map the right way around"

Marella starts laughing, "That's a lie, isn't it?" "Do I look like I'm lying?" Keefe inquires. I glare at him angrily and Marella stops laughing, "So it's true?" Keefe beams at me and I hiss as Marella happily walks away, "You know this is going to cost you your life, right?"

He winks at me happily: "Let's see when your threat comes true" "It won't take long", I start thinking right away about what prank I could play on him.

At home I throw my bag on my bed and throw myself on it right away. Marella has been telling everyone how horrible I am in universe.  Actually, I would have expected that from Keefe, but he was silent. Well, he still joked about it sometimes, but it was limited. Instead, he tried to distract me from it. He didn't particularly succeed, but it was very amusing to watch his efforts. And he knew that.

Or maybe, he just wanted to save his skin. Which is more likely. I was still thinking of a perfect prank, but then again, I'm going to deliver him to his mother. And I think that would be enough. But it's all for good will. What did she actually want with him? She's just telling us that she's going to change the world. That's all well and good, but what's the point of Keefe? He's just a pathetic little boy afraid of his own powers.

His powers? Surely that's what she wants from him. But why didn't she give herself the powers right away? That would be a lot smarter. Except, of course, when she didn't have the opportunity to do so. But then again, it's Lady Gisela, she always finds a way.

At that moment, a hum comes from my school bag. My Imparter was ringing and I also know who it was. Lady Gisela calls me once a week to ask for information. Of course I told her everything I knew.

I slowly dig my Imparter out of my pocket and look at it. Yep, I'm right, it was Lady Gisela. "Hello," I answer and look at her face. As always, she seems emotionless: "I see you haven't been caught yet, Emerald. I'm amazed." "Yes, I've got a lot of talent," I say lifting my head and looking at her steadily. "If you had, I wouldn't be surprised," she replies coldly, and then she also immediately asks, "Anything new?" "Yes," I say and I briefly see how she looks a bit surprised.

But she pulls herself together quickly and her face draws closer with interest, "What?" "Well," I begin slowly to keep her intrigued longer, "I've learned that Mr. Forkle-" "He is dead," she laughs coldly. Hm, I did not know that. Was he a ghost? Nonsense, I saw him alive and talked to him too. "He isn't," I object. "Do you have proof?" she asks, looking bored at her nails.

"Yes, he's Magnate Leto." She turns away from her nails and looks at me, "Is he eating ruckelberries?" "Probably," I reply, shrugging. Should I tell her I have a sister? Rather not, they probably know anyway. And I don't feel like confronting them right now.

"Do you have any other information?" she inquires. "Yes, I will meet Fintan. With Keefe and you will have your chance to take him. Only there's a catch, Marella will be there. And I have no idea where he is, they won' tell me." "That's not the problem I know where he is. When is the meeting?" I'm still in shock, that she already knows where he is the whole time. But still leaves him there to rott. This-

"Why didn't we try to get him out?" I ask the question. "I'm asking the questions here and not you," she hisses coldly, "so again: when is the meeting?" I sigh and say resignedly:, "In a week and a half" Without saying goodbye, she hangs up and I'm relieved. I've never liked her.

The next morning I'm still angry. I try not to lat it show on as I eat my food. ,,Is everything alright? Normally you don't eat that much...", I look up and see that it is Sophie who is looking at me worried. I nod silently and turn to the food again. She shrugs her shoulders: "If you say so."

We jump to school together, but then we immediately separate. She walks over to her friends and I just stand alone. The conversation with Lady Gisela showed me that I no longer have to be friends with her. Now I could spend the remaining days alone and quietly.

As we all meet up for the morning meeting, Biana walks over to me and asks, "Wouldn't you like to come over?" I coolly reply, "No, not really. I can't stand Keefe!" "Well... for not being able to stand him, you look over at him quite often."

I glare at her angrily, she had no idea. Yes, I look over at him and yes, often. But only because I'm afraid that he can read my emotions and find out everything. I'm pretty sure I feel anger and regret. Which Keefes must never know. "Look, you're doing it again!" Biana steps closer to me and asks quietly: "Do somebody have a  little crush?"

"What?!" I exclaim, looking at her in shock, "No, never in my life!" "Then tell me why you keep looking at him." I frantically think about an answer when Keefe comes over, of course with Sophie clinging to his arm. "What am I feeling here. Is that embarrassment?" he looks at me with his ice blue eyes and tries to read the secret from my emotions.

"No, that's pure hatred towards you", I can't let him get under my skin like that. Luckily he couldn't reply anymore, because we were interrupted by magnate Leto: "Good morning!"

"Rather bad morning," I mumble softly to myself. But Keefe, who was closest to me, can hear it. He raises an eyebrow questioningly, but he doesn't say anything. I'm grateful to him for that, I have no will or patience to stand next to him so take a step to the side, i ram a student and almost fell if fitz hadn't caught me, who suddenly appeared behind me.

I quickly free myself from his arms and look at magnate Leto with concentration. In the meantime he has come to the general pronouncement: "I hope you are preparing well for the exams in a week. We don't want anyone to fail."

What did he say? Exams? Next week? I'm still there. Hopefully I turn to Fitz: "Are all subjects tested?" "Yup, all in one day," he looks at me happily, "then you've got it all behind you" I swallow and don't know what to say.

"Let's see if you can do it, Devil. I don't think you've even started studying yet," Keefe looks at me teasingly. I don't reply and just keep staring at his face. He was right, I haven't studied yet. I'm sure I'd fail these exams.
