-=Narrator=-

No matter how many bitter insults Kiarah spits towards the dark assassinator or their creator, it seems that fate is really trying to tie them together. By then, meeting each other in the same location started to feel common for both. Heck, they even committed arson together on a ship containing nearly five hundred civilians in. Everything that's happening between them felt normal. Or better yet, comforting.

Until. . . Fate really tested these two.

"Pardon?"

Kiarah asked with a calm tone, tho in her thoughts were voices debating whether she heard her 'boss' say the unexpected.

"You deaf? I repeat, my partner is going on a ball but never told me he was. I want you and this dark assassinator to pretend to be a couple and spy on him if he's cheating."

Ione blankly stated, crossing her arms while raising one leg to the other. Jane sighed in displeasure, rolling her eyes as she swirled the glass of wine in her hands.

"As if he would. He's too much of a pussy to even do it."

Jane grumbled, drinking the wine straight from the glass and harshly shoving it down on the coffee table in front of her. Ione just glared at her and stared back at Kiarah, who was still frozen in her seat in front of Ione's desk.

"Oh, look. Your mom came back with a carton of milk."

Ione pointed to the office door that creeked with the door wide open.

"WHERE-"

Kiarah shot behind her back to look, only to hear a chuckle from the woman sitting on the office chair. She turned back and showed a 'it's not funny.' Expression on her face, making Jane scoff and Ione cackle.

"Back to the topic, either you agree or not you have no choice but to agree."

Ione breathed heavily before speaking, making hand gestures to show she really didn't care what her response was. Kiarah just scoffed, standing up and sitting beside Jane, and started to light a cigarette.

"Remind me why I work for you again?"

Kiara scoffed, speaking with a hint of annoyance and then taking a short drag after.

"Money? I don't know, just to show your gratitude, maybe."

Ione shrugged, unsure of herself about her response. For a moment, Kiarah drifted to her thoughts, recalling the memory of when they met. But then, quickly shook her head to move onto a different topic.

"So, the ball occurs tonight, right? What about my partner? Did you even manage to contact him?"

Kiarah asked, a tone of sarcasm laced on her last words. She took a long drag from the cigarette, blowing out the smoke soon after, to which the smoke waltz itself towards Jane, who coughed slightly, waving off the smoke in another direction.

"Yup. Actually, he's supposed to be here in 3. . . 2. . . 1"

Once Ione finished her countdown, a knock came from the office door. Despite it being widely open, the other still bothered to knock.

"I'm here, just as requested."

The other stared darkly at Ione, who didn't even flinch. He also gave Jane an observing look, and once his cold, dark cyan eye landed to Kiarah, his look quickly softened.

"Kiarah, I didn't expect to see you here."

[To be honest, I actually did.]

"Hi. . ."

Kiarah hurriedly crumpled the cigarette on the ashtray before he came and looked away from the other, somewhat feeling slightly awkward. The other just nodded, and then his expression quickly hardened to a stoic one as his eye descended towards Ione. He entered the room, his dark shoes clanking against the shiny smooth stone floor beneath him.

Ione gestured him to sit, which he did on a chair in front of her desk.

"So, what business do you need me for?"

". . . I see."

"Well, do you accept this selfish favour of mine?"

Seconds of silence had passed, and eventually, the other just nodded. A part of Kiarah wanted him to refuse, but a part of her also wanted him to agree. It was confusing for her, but nonetheless tried to act calm.

"Delightful. Now, may I know your name?"

Shortly, once Kiarah heard Ione, she felt a little dumbfounded for not even asking the other's name despite doing some crimes together.

". . . Nathan." (My brain is already empty, I can't think of other names)

"Hmm, well then, I wish you and Kiarah luck for your mission, Nathan."

Ione stood up, offering a hand shake, to which Nathan took. A smile spread on Ione's face, and by looking at it, it felt off.
