After that he lead us to the conference room and pulled out a bunch of syringes to draw our blood. Lori and Carl went first, then Carol and Sophia. Then it was my turn.
"Lemme see your arm?" Jenner asked. I did what he said and cringed as he found a vain and inserted the needle. "Don't like needles?" He asked.
"Meh, I'm indifferent, don't like seeing it go into my skin, but watching the blood move into the syringe is kinda cool," I reply as he finishes.
"And you're done," Jenner said. I stood up and paused for a moment, closing my eyes as dizziness hit me. "Are you alight?" Jenner asked me as I opened my eyes.
"Yeah, I'm good, just dizzy a bit," I said as I open my eyes and sit next to Lori and Carl. Next after me was Daryl, who glared at Jenner but let him draw the blood. Then Glenn, T-Dog, Rick, Jacqui, Shane, and Dale, and last but not least Andrea.
"What's the point?" Andrea starts. "If we were infected, we'd all be running a fever," she finished.
"I've already broken every rule in the book letting you in here. Just let me be thorough," Jenner says firmly. When he was done drawing blood Andrea stands and sways dizzily like I did, She stumbled, and Jacqui had to catch her.
"Are you okay?" Jenner asked for the second time. Andrea hummed in response.
"She hasn't eaten in days, None of us have," Jacqui replied for Andrea. Jenner looked down and nodded, then stood up and told us to follow him, we did, and he lead us to the kitchen. He told us to sit down at the table and wait. I got stuck between Shane and Andrea and across from Rick, Carl, and Lori.
Eventually he came back with multiple plates of food, and after a few trips he came back with red wine. Soon enough all of us--other than the minors--were tipsy or drunk by this point, everyone laughing and eating. I was one of the drunk people...
"You know, in Italy, children have a little bit of wine with dinner, and in France," Dale said as he poured more wine into my cup.
"Well, when Carl is in Italy or France, he can have some then," Lori laughed.
"What's it gonna hurt? Come on," Rick insists, "Come on..." Rick continued.
"Where was that attitude when I was drinking at 16?" I slurred, and Rick glared at me playfully. I giggled as took a bite of the spaghetti.
"Okay," Lori gives in, and Dale reaches over and pours wine into Carl's cup. Carl hesitantly takes a sip. He instantly makes a face.
"Ew..." Carl shutters and everyone laughs.
"Well, just stick to soda pop there, bud," Shane teases.
"Not you, Glenn," Daryl booms.
"What?" Glenn asks out of it.
"Keep drinking, little man. I want to see how red your face can get," Daryl says and scrunches his face up and he pours Glenn more wine. I laugh along with everyone else. Rick clinks his fork against his glass, everyone quieting down.
"It seems to me we haven't thanked our host properly," Rick spoke.
"He is more than just our host!" T-dog exclaimed.
"Hear, hear!" Dale exclaimed.
"Here's to you, doc, Booyah!" Daryl boomed. Everyone echoed him and cheers with their glasses.
"So, when are you gonna tell us what the hell happened here, doc? All the... the other doctors." Shane started, sounding painfully sober. "That were supposed to be figuring out what happened, where are they?"
"Shane, don' be a fuckin' buzz kill," I slur, my Georgian accent thicker than normal.
"We're celebrating, Shane," Rick scolded. "We don't need to do this now."
"Whoa, wait a second. This is why we're here, right? This was your move..." Shane trailed off, dead staring at Rick. "Supposed to find all the answers. Instead-" Shane chuckled darkly. "We found him. Found one man, Why?" Everyone was silent for a moment.
"Well, when things went bad, a lot of people just left. Went off to be with their families, and when things got worse... when the military cordon got overrun, the rest bolted," Jenner explained.
"Every last one?" Shane asked.
"No, many couldn't dace walking out the door. They... opted out." It took my mind a few seconds to process what he meant. "There was a rash of suicides. That was a bad time..." He trailed off.
"You didn't leave, why?" Andrea spoke up.
"I just kept working. Hoping to do some good," Jenner finished.
"Dude, you are such a buzz kill man..." Glenn said, and he grabbed another bottle of wine, I followed suit.
"Why'd we let ya speak, Shane?" I slurred. Later Jenner lead us down a hallway.
"Most of the facility is powered down including housing, so you'll have to make do here. The couches are comfortable, but there are cots in storage if you like. There's a rec room down the hall that you kids might enjoy. Just don't plug in the video games, okay? Or anything that draws power. The same applies if you shower, go easy on the hot water," Jenner explains.
"Hot water?" Glenn said excitedly.
"That's what he said!" I exclaimed, and bolted into the first room I could, narrowly missing Daryl as I did. The room was small, it could barely enough room for the couch, but I shrugged it off and B-lined to the bathroom, the only thing on my mind was taking a hot shower.
After the shower, I get dressed in something at least semi-clean and step out of the bathroom, loving the after shower clean feeling. I scanned the room and had to do a double take, Daryl was in the room, sitting on the couch. When I made eye contact with him, he looked down at the bolt to his crossbow he was fidgeting with.
"What're ya doin' in here Daryl? How come ya haven' taken a shower yet?" I asked him gently.
"They took all the rooms," He muttered. Not looking up from the bolt. I smiled and took the crossbow out of his hands and set it aside, and slipped into his lap, wrapping my arms around his shoulders, his hands instinctively grabbing my hips. "What're you doin'?" He asked unsurely.
"You could stay with me tonight, if you wanted anyways," I suggested, my eyes darting from his eyes to his lips and back up again, wondering how they would feel against my own. His eyes did the same. I lean down, my mind foggy with alcohol, and press my lips softly to his. It was only a peck, but a small flame unfurls in my gut, and I remember just how long it's been since I've had any kind of release.
Daryl's breathing catches and one of his hands come up and slides into my hair, pulling me softly into another kiss, I close my eyes, deepening the kiss, and slowly grind my hips down into him.
Somehow my hand ends up in between the short strands of his short hair at the back of his neck as he groans into my mouth, his hand on my hip tightening, and pulls me down into him again. I moan as I feel just how affected he is, and I oddly wonder how long it's been for him too. The kiss becomes heated as we grind against each other, moaning and groaning quietly.
Daryl shifts back against the couch, moving his hands from me to his belt, but before he could actually unbuckle anything, there was a knock at the bedroom door, we froze for a second, trying to listen, trying to see if the person behind the door would continue to knock on the door or if they would just go away.
"Aunt Abby?" Carl called through the door, "Mom said I should come and say good night," he continued. I groan, and shift back onto Daryl's knees, closing my eyes.
"Hold on Carl, I'll be there in a second," I said as I attempted to stand, and failed. I let out a yelp as I fell towards the ground, Daryl catching me just in time, and helped me steady myself. I took a second to fix my clothes before heading towards the door.
