Chapter Forty ~ Hunter

Frankie came in with Jorden and both seemed happier than when they left.

Candy apologized first. "I'm so sorry, Jorden. I completely spaced."

"It's okay." Jorden shrugged. "A baby's a happy time. We should definitely celebrate Bean. I'm thinking grey and yellow."

"For his colors?" Frankie thought it over. "I like it. Yellow's a happy color. And grey's so calming."

We all looked at both like they were crazy.

"What?" Both asked.

We didn't want to bring up how weird it was that they were bonding over a baby that broke up two separate couples.

Frankie sat next to me but Jorden sat next to Bradley. She began asking him if he'd seen some documentary about chimpanzees.

I looked at Frankie cuz that was weird but she was already looking at them and smiling. That was totally suspect.

After lunch ended, we got back to work.

That was dull and boring. But I was blazing through questions. I actually understood this stuff!

By the time the day ended, I felt confident for the first time in my life about a test.

We all turned in our work and left an hour before school got out so we could beat the rush.

I took Frankie and Livie home but as soon as I stopped, Frankie took her seatbelt off. "Livie, go in the house."

She began whining. "Why?!"

"Livie!"

"But-!"

"Olivia Maura Hall!"

Livie burst into tears but left to go in the house.

I felt in trouble. "Did I do something?"

"Not yet." Frankie turned to face me.

"Can you just tell me what I did wrong? I hate guessing games."

"So do I. I'm not going to make you read my mind. You did nothing wrong. I just want you to talk to Bradley."

"What?!" I was shocked stupid. "Talk to him about what?!"

"This situation."

"What situation?"

"The five of us, Hunt." She poked my arm hard.

"Five?" That really messed me up.

"Me, you, Bean and Jorden and Bradley."

She really wasn't making me guess? "But I don't want to talk to him. About anything."

"Why not?"

"Are you serious, Frankie?! This guy proposed to you knowing I'm the father of your baby!"

"He was being sweet."

My jaw dropped.

"Stop being a meanie and talk to him. He deserves an apology for all you've done to him. Unwarranted I may add."

"He had you!"

"Hunt." She looked at me in hurt. Was her past why or did it just have to do with not being a dick?

I sighed heavily. "Fine. I'll talk to him tomorrow."

"Yay." She perked up.

"I was supposed to ask you to come over today. Mom wants to see you."

"And Nae wants to see you. I'll come over Wednesday since we won't have to be in school and then you'll come over Thursday. I want you to meet Marc and Larry. Then we can go to school Friday for the last day of high school ever!"
