Chapter Forty Five ~ Frankie

We made it to Hunt's house in one piece then got out to go inside. His brothers roamed downstairs.

"Frankie!" All four yelled.

"Hi, guys!" I laughed.

"Where's Mom and Dad?" Hunt asked.

"Mom's getting off work about now." Parker checked his phone. "Dad's on his way home so he can catch a game of some kid he's trying to recruit."

Hunt took his phone out and typed on it.

"What's the excitement?" Conner must could tell we were bursting at the seams.

"I want your parents here." I kept mum.

"Wait!" Trevor looked too excited. "Wasn't today the day you found out about Hunt Jr.?"

I didn't fall for it. "You'll know when your parents get here."

"Come on, Frankie." He cajoled.

Hunt was immediately upset. "Leave her alone!"

"Trev, stop teasing him." Spencer was exasperated.

"Big baby." Trevor sulked.

Parker slapped him upside the head. "Stop it."

Trevor blew out a heavy breath.

The door opened behind us and we all turned. Mr. Jimmy was there. "What's the excitement?"

"They have news they won't share."

Mr. Jimmy sighed heavily. "Trev."

"They won't! They wanted to wait on you and Mom."

"Is it good news?"

I shrugged.

He sighed again and took his phone from his pocket. "Mel's still a few minutes away. By the time I get changed, she should be here."

I smiled benignly. I hoped so. Keeping this a secret was killing me.

He jogged upstairs.

"I'm hungry." I was surprised.

"I can make you something." Hunt offered.

"Can I have a peanut butter sandwich?"

He smiled at me. "Coming right up."

I loved him so much. He didn't mock my peanut love.

He went to the kitchen to make my sandwich and I followed. Thank goodness they had wheat bread but he smeared on a lot of Jif; just the way I liked.

He set the plate in front of me and poured me a glass of ice water.

I began eating, happy he left the sandwich open.

He cleaned up, smiling at me.

By the time I finished, Ms. Mel was walking in. I could hear her at the door. "Your mom's back."
