Sarah and Nat all but drag you out of the apartment. Not saying a word until you get outside, "Toss me the keys," Sarah says holding her hands up. There is a bit of kindred spirits between you and her, so you don't hesitate, and as soon as you three get in, Nat struggling over the car seat, she doesn't hold back. "You wanna tell me what that was back there?"
"Uh, what, what was?" you ask. You are pretty sure you know where she's going with that.
"The puppy dog and the baby daddy," not answering you just stare out the window. "Listen, I'm gonna be real with you, that is gonna get you in trouble."
"I don't think I follow."
Leaning in between the two front seats, Nat takes a good hard look at you, "What she means to say, is that you've got a pretty boy baby daddy, that you obviously have feelings for. He's been very protective of you, and keeps watching you, making sure you're coping. And then the puppy, he's following you around, and his eyes keep checking you out."
"We're just friends."
"MmmHmm," Sarah moans.
"We are."
"Which one? Have you seen Jake naked?" you quickly shake your head no at Nat's question. "Have you ever kissed him?"
"Sorta, it was an accident."
Sarah's head turns slowly to look at you, "And just how do you 'accidently' kiss somebody?"
Shrugging your shoulders, you try to think of the best way to explain. "He took me to see Andy's dad in prison, and when we got back, I went to give him a kiss," another look from Sarah, and even a gasp from Nat. "On the cheek! Goah, don't look at me like that. And then he turned, and we kissed."
"Did you kiss him back?" Sarah asks, her voice flat because she already knows the answer, and it's confirmed when you nod yes. "What about Ransom. We know you had the affair. If you don't mind me asking, when was the last time you guys had sex?" shocked you gasp looking at her. "You're not doing a good job of hiding that on your neck. Andy do that?" her voice changes when you shake your head no. "I'm guessing the accidental kisser is a no, too?" silence. "Ransom?" silence. "Babygirl, I get it. You've got history, last night had to be traumatic, and Ransom is stepping up to be a father. Seeing a man care for your kids, makes you fall harder and faster. Do you love him?"
With the tears that fall out your eyes, you're unable to speak into words the way you feel about Ransom. It's true, your feelings rapidly changed seeing him with Aster. Sped up even faster when he was including Iris. Shrugging your shoulders almost in shame you look at Nat who moves even closer, grabbing your hand in hers. "I don't know. I mean...I do. I love him, but..."
