Batch 47 Part Two

Back in the lab Murphy immediately noticed that Ellie had ignored him and had left but he wasnt worried she wouldn't go far.

Gathering around the heads Murphy waited for Odegard to prepare the vaccines

"How do we know if this stuff works?"

"Well, if the dosage is right, it should reverse the effects of the zombie virus" Odegard said coming over to the zombie heads with vials of purple powder in his hands and a long plastic pipe

"Yeah? And Moe here gonna sing'The Star-Spangled Banner'?"

"Um, no... I would be happy with any crude sign of latent humanity. Will you do the honours?"

Taking the glass of the first zombies head, Odegard placed the tube up the zombies nose

"The nasal passage gives me direct access to the brain" he said inserting the powder in the top of the tube and blowing into it so it entered through the zombies nose.

The first zombie started shaking, while making noices until it started getting worse and Murphy quikly placed the glass back on just as the zombie head exploded.

"I guess that's a no"

"Subject one - two grams. Failure due to uncontrolled side effects" Odegard said writing in his notebook " I'm gonna half the dose"

Repeating the process on the next zombie which resulted in nothing it basically put the zombie to sleep

"Nothing. Not even a zombie buzz"

"One gram. No visible effect.I'm gonna split the difference. This should be just right."

"OK, Goldilocks" Murphy said lifting the last glass and Odegard repeated the process

"I think he's looking at us" Murphy said after a few seconds when the zombies eyes shifted

"Hmm.Need more of a reaction if it's gonna be clinically significant."

"Brains." The zombie suddenly said

"Brains'! He said 'brains'!" Murphy said excitedly

"I knew it! I knew it! Batch 47 has anti-zombie properties. Phase one of clinical trials is a success. Partner." Odegard said holding his hand out

"Partner." Murphy said shaking his hand "Now what?"

"We have to harvest the rest of the seed pods. Gonna need help"

Just as Murphywas about to say somthing he was interrupted by Cassandra who placed her hand on his shoulder. Leaning down towards her she whispered "They're here"

Smiling Murphy looked back at Odegard "And I have just the people for the job"

"Cassandra just went into the lab. I think she saw me" 10K said coming over to the table where they were discussing what to do about Murphy

"What do you want to do? Wait for Murphy to come out and jump him?" Vasquez said

"No, I don't like waiting. Bad things happen when you wait."

"Especially when he has a habit of running" Ellie said agreeing with Warren

"We can take the guards hostage, search the compound for him."

"I like that."

"I could just talk to him" Ellie said
