The curtains fluttered in the warm breeze, bringing in the summer vibes she loved so much. It was a hot July day, and she was soaking it all in.
Sitting at her study table, Y/N was lost in her own little world. Her long hair swayed with the gusts coming through the window.
With nimble fingers, she wrapped a gift in pretty, sheer paper and tied it with a shiny bow that sparkled in the sunlight.
The door creaked open, but she didn't notice. "Wow, Y/N!" her younger brother exclaimed, almost bouncing over her.
"Hey, back off, Sam! You might mess it up," she playfully scolded, gently patting the perfectly wrapped present.
"Whose birthday is it, anyway? Last I checked, you had no friends, sis," he teased, a cheeky grin on his face. Y/N shot him a glare.
"And I wonder who your friends are? Oh right, just your gaming PC," she retorted, rolling her eyes.
"But seriously, who's this gift for? You never give gifts to anyone," Sam pressed, his curiosity growing. Y/N giggled, her cheeks turning pink.
"It's his birthday, Sam," she said, excitement creeping into her voice.
Sam sighed dramatically. "Don't tell me you spent all your money on this," he warned, looking serious. Y/N crossed her arms, annoyed.
"I don't care about money, Sam. I painted all those artworks just to get him what he wants," she huffed, her frustration clear.
"Y/N, that boy is not right for you," Sam tried to reason, worry creasing his brow. But she shook her head defiantly.
"I love him, Sam. I know it sounds silly, but he makes me happy," she whined, her sincerity tugging at his heart.
"You're only fourteen. Your feelings might change as you get older," Sam advised, trying to sound wise.
"And you're only eleven, so I'm the more mature one here," she shot back.
Sam sighed, realizing it was pointless to argue with her. "How do you plan to give it to him?" he asked, narrowing his eyes at her.
"Can you cover for me?" she pleaded, her eyes wide with hope.
"No way, Y/N. I won't lie to Mama," he groaned. But then she hit him with her best move—those pleading eyes.
"Please? Just for an hour, and then I'll be back," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.
"What if Papa asks about you?" he grumbled, searching for an escape.
Y/N thought for a moment. "You can say I went for a shower or that I'm sleeping. We share the same room, so it'll be easy... Please, Sammy," she begged, clasping her hands together.
