Y/N slowly blinked her heavy eyelids as she fought to stay awake. She yawned and leaned over the kitchen counter, feeling tired.

"Y/N, can you please chop the onions instead of just standing there?" her mother said, clearly annoyed. Y/N pouted, showing her dislike.

"Mama, you know I hate doing kitchen chores. And I can't stand Grandma's visits. They're mean and selfish," she complained, chopping the onion forcefully.

Mrs. Seo lightly slapped Y/N's head. "Behave, Y/N. She is your grandmother, and you need to show some respect," her mom said, her voice a mix of authority and frustration.

Y/N rolled her eyes. "Yeah, yeah, and what do they do? They always put you, Papa, and us down. Their visits are just chances to make fun of us. They love showing off their wealth," she said, shaking her head in disbelief.

"Listen, Y/N, if someone is mean, it's our duty to be kind to them. It might make them feel guilty," Mrs. Seo explained, trying to keep an eye on the boiling rice.

Y/N clicked her tongue and rolled her eyes again. "Well, if someone is really bad, I think they deserve the same treatment. I can't be like you, Mama. You've let people walk all over you. I'm Seo Y/N, and I will always stand up for myself," she declared firmly, leaving little room for argument.

"Alright, do what you want, but for now, please help me," her mother said, reaching out to gently massage her daughter's head.

"Oh, and make that Italian salad. Your grandmother loves it when you make it," Mrs. Seo added, turning her attention back to cooking.

A mischievous smile appeared on Y/N's face as she whispered to herself, "Maybe I should add a little poison to the Italian salad. Let the old lady's chapter come to an end soon," she murmured, rolling her eyes and going back to chopping the onions.

"I mean, how can they be so rude and still expect us to be nice?" she grumbled under her breath.

Mrs. Seo sighed, trying to keep the peace. "Y/N, just focus on the salad for now. Just remember, family is important."

"Important? They don't even treat us like family!" Y/N shot back, slamming the knife down a little too hard. "It's like they only come to remind us how much money we don't have."

"Y/N!" Mrs. Seo warned, raising an eyebrow. "You need to watch your tone. I know it's not easy, but we can't control how others act. We can only control how we respond."

"Yeah, but responding kindly to them feels like a waste of time," Y/N replied, crossing her arms. "They don't deserve it."

"Maybe not, but kindness can change hearts," Mrs. Seo said gently.
