#36 Regulus' Horcrux

Hi :)
Just a short one that I had on my mind

Dumbledore looked down into the dark waters, listening to the shrieks that wanted to pull him down with them. Regulus had lead him to the horcrux but apparently wasn't strong enough to destroy it and Dumbledore knew he didn't have a lot of time before Voldemort himself was going to show himself.

Dumbledore slowly turned his head as he heard a set of clear footsteps come from behind him. Dumbledore froze, there was no way it could be him, the man continued to move forward. Dumbledore didn't know what he was going to do, Regulus Black was supposed to be dead.

"You look like you've seen a ghost" Sirius came forward smiling, "it's just me".

Dumbledore now wished it was Regulus who had appeared. The room was silent, even the shrieking had been drawn to a bare minimum, Sirius had a hand in one pocket and his wand in the other.

"Pick up your wand Dumbledore"

"What for, Mr Black?"

"You killed my brother. Pick up your wand"

Dumbledore felt a presence getting closer to him when he looked to his left Barty's face came into view, "pick up your wand".

Dumbledore tried to speak before being interrupted, "pick up your wand" Evan came forward next to Barty. Dumbledore turned to his right, Dorcas and Pandora both staring at him with nothing but evil intent.

"You killed my best friend" Pandora raised her arm, tears still forming in her eyes, "pick up your fucking wand".

"There is no need for a fight, we will all go back to the castle where you'll be safe" Dumbledore still wasn't raising his wand.

Dumbledore tried moving forward before a flash of light striked his chest. Sirius stared at James, watching a tear came down his cheek as he continued to curse Dumbledore.

Dumbledore eventually crumbled, letting out a faint "please enough" as he hit the ground. James lowered his wand and walked closer, he went to speak when everyone heard a noise come from the lake.

Dumbledore began to shake, "no, it's not my time"

A figure laid resting just above the water further back, everyone's eyes widened as the familiar, soothing voice started pulling Dumbledore towards him.

"Come join us Albus, it's quick I promise"

"Regulus..." Dumbledore's eyes were now covered in a hazy glaze.

"Quicker than falling asleep"

"Regulus please"

"You left me here alone Dumbledore, I would never have done that to you..."

"Regulus don't"

Hands began to emerge from the water, dragging Dumbledore towards the water. Dumbledore looked back to Sirius who was looking between his friends.

Pandora and Dorcas didn't move, neither did Barty or Evan. Albus Dumbledore had taken their best friend from them.

Sirius just stared, Albus Dumbledore had left his brother to die. He turned to James who watched as Regulus' figure disappeared back into the darkness.

"Get in the water" James whispered, beginning to leave the cave.

Later that night the group sat around Regulus' headstone, reading the engraving's that had been placed on it.

Partner to James Fleamont Potter
Best friend to Dorcas Meadowes and Pandora Lovegood
"Feelings are a lot of fucking work"

Dorcas laughed at that last line, she wiped a tear from her eye, secretly holding Evan's hand as he tried to pull himself together.

"James?"

"Yes Pandora?"

"Who was that? In the water?"

"...it sounded like Regulus"

"But-"

"I know, it couldn't have been him"

Everyone was silent until Barty turned and looked at James as well, asking a question he thought he'd never ask.

"Did we do the right thing?"

Sirius shrugged then nodded, Barty smiled at him but then looked back to James.

"I don't think it was the right thing, but it wasn't the wrong one either"

"I'll drink to that" Pandora made glasses appear and filled them with butterbeer, Regulus' favourite. The group gave a cheers to the sky and drank, lying in the graveyard for the rest of the night.

Right that's it, hope you enjoyed this one. I know it wasn't heavy Jegulus but was just a thought that had been swimming (AYYY) around in my mind for a while
