Mix froze, looking at Lee with surprise

Mix froze, looking at Lee with surprise. Everyone always told him that he looked more like his mom. Even he himself didn't think that he and his father were that similar. And then, there was this bartender in the Fire Dragon who recognized him anyway? This was both good and bad. Good because Mix could hopefully get new information about his father. Bad because if Lee would say something in front of Earth...

Mix looked around, making sure Earth wasn't magically coming back already, and when he was sure that the air was still clear, he turned to Lee, leaning closer. "Everyone always tells me I look more like my mom."

Lee nodded, shrugging, "well, I'm not saying I can't see that, but here, in this club, at this bar... I just have so many memories of your father here, that I can't help it; you scream Kiet to me."

Mix nervously bit his lip and took a deep breath, "you are the first one who recognised me."

"And by the looks of it, I reckon that I wasn't supposed to, was I?" Lee asked, eyebrows furrowed, he was looking around, just like Mix did before. Maybe he too, was making sure that Earth wasn't coming back yet. "What are you doing here, kid?"

"How well did you know my father? Do you know my mother as well? What about me? Have you met me before, when I was a child or something? Wha—"

Lee raised his hand to stop Mix, "hold up, boy. You want me to answer so many questions and I won't even get the answer to one that I asked? That's not how we are playing here. What are you doing here, Sahaphap?"

Sahaphap... so Lee knew Mix's birth name. If someone in the entire club should know what was Mix truly doing there, maybe Lee was the best option.

"No one can hear us here?" Mix asked carefully.

"Do you see anyone around? They all disappeared after that stupid shooting. Pitty, Earth couldn't even finish his first fight after the break."

Mix raised his eyebrow...

"Well, yeah, pity that the poor boy died as well, but hey, that's how it goes when you are born into the mafia, living becomes a way bigger hazard than usual."

Mix glanced at the spot across the club where the boy bled out to death not so long ago. Joe was there now. Trying to get rid of the blood left behind. But he was too far away from them. He couldn't hear them. So Mix turned to Lee, "this is only between us. Get it? No one can know."

"Who are you, Mix? A cop?"

"Investigative journalist," Mix admitted.

"And what the fuck are you trying to do here?" Lee's expression hardened. "You want to drag his club down? That's why you are here?"

"That's not—" Mix stopped himself, chewing his bottom lip. He couldn't really say that wasn't what he was essentially doing because it kind of was. It was his duty as an investigative journalist that worked with police a lot, to expose any illegal activities. Even the types that maybe weren't that harmful or even that well hidden from the police anyway. Even if it wasn't his main goal in the club, it was an unavoidable side effect.
