You were standing at the train station, on Platform 9 ¾. You could see people bouncing on their toes, excited to get on, but you would have to wait to show your excitement until your dad left. Suddenly, a train pulled up.

"You better not tell anyone about me, you understand?" A harsh voice whispered in your ear, and someone grabbed your shoulder. You tried not to flinch.

"I understand, sir." You replied, feeling slightly nauseous, and attempted to step towards the train.

The hand on your shoulder tightened. "If you do, you will not be able to write for a month." You knew the threat of him breaking your hand was not empty; he'd done it before.

You looked up at the man, fear showing in your eyes as you nodded. "Yes, sir." You could feel your heartbeat speed up.

The man shoved you away, and you practically ran for the train, desperate to get away from your father.

As you stepped aboard along with the crowd, you gazed in awe at the magical train. A girl who looked about your age stepped up next to you.

"Hi!" Her voice was the cheeriest you've heard in years. "I'm Kylie Benson, what's your name?"

You gazed at her for a second. "Uh, I-I'm, um, Y/n Y/l/n." You stuttered a bit, unsure of how to react.

"Why don't you sit with me? There's an empty sector right here!"

You looked into the mini room of the train. "Uh, sure."

A voice from behind you made you flinch. "HEY! Move it, we want to get on too!"

You stepped into the sector with Kylie, but neither of you closed the glass sliding door. You sat down on one of the benches.

"W-Where's my luggage?" You asked Kylie.

"Oh, they will have taken it by now. It'll be in the dorms as soon as we get sorted." She was so confident. How did she know these things already?

"Oh, okay." Toughen up! How would your father react to you acting like this?

There was an uncomfortable silence for a few seconds, as neither of you knew what to say. The train had already lurched away from the station, and a few minutes passed as you and Kylie sat there awkwardly.

You looked up as someone ran into your sector, gasping for breath. "Uh, sorry. I, uh... sorry." He sat on the bench beside you, looking at the door repeatedly.

"Are you okay?" Kylie inquired.

"What? Oh, yeah. I'm just, uh, hiding."

"From who?" You didn't want to ask, but Kylie wasn't, and your curiosity got the better of you.

"One of the other first years. He's been bothering me this whole ride."

"Oh." More silence. After a bit, someone walked past your sector, glaring into it as he saw the boy sitting in with you.

"You, Mudblood." He glowered at the boy, whose eyes had fallen to the floor. "Why are you running? I thought you'd be braver than that, if you're hoping to get into Gryffindor."

"Leave him alone." You don't know why you said that, as the confrontation made your heart speed, but you did. There was no turning back as the blonde boy turned his glare on you.

"And why would I do that? You have no authority here."

You glared straight back at him. "Because if you don't, I'll smack that smirk right off your face." You didn't know if you were bluffing or not.

He scoffed. "Yeah, right. Like you could do that. You'd probably cry afterwards out of guilt."

You clenched your fist, knowing that you were not, in fact, bluffing. "Shut. Up."

"Ummm, no. You're far too weak to do something about it anyways." He turned to the boy. "And you are over here letting a little girl defend you! Like a wimp. You're such a cowar-"

His voice cut off short as your open palm connected with his cheek. He turned his gaping mouth towards you, and you stood there glaring at him.

"Weak, huh. I thought I said go away." You smirked at the shocked expression on his face as he turned and left, glancing back at you once more.

"I will not let this go. Trust me," he said before strolling down the train.

You leaned back against the bench, feeling your heart race, and your stomach was jumping in circles. You felt warm.

"Wow... I, uh... didn't expect that from you." You looked at Kylie as she spoke. Her eyes were stretched wide, and a smile pulled at her lips.

You let out a single half-hearted chuckle. "Yeah, me neither."

The boy looked at you. "Thanks for doing that, though, you didn't have to."

You smiled at him. "It's no problem."

You all sat there as you processed what just happened, until the train came to a stop.

"So..." You started, looking at the boy. "What's your name? I'm Y/n Y/l/n."

He smiled back. "Neville Longbottom."

Kylie butted in too. "And I'm Kylie Benson. Wanna be friends?" She added, extending her hand to Neville.

He nodded, meeting her hand in the middle. "Sure." He then turned to you, offering you his hand. "Friends?"

You took his hand, shaking it. "So, what now? Do we sign a contract or something?"

Kylie laughed. "Maybe at some point, but not right now, I don't think."

The silence was loud for a few seconds before Neville spoke up again. "So, I guess that makes us friends."

"Yeah," you said, standing up to leave the sector. "Let's go inside!"
