Draco's POV
I had just arrived home with my parents when they got a mysterious call to go into work. I don't even know where they work!
But I took this as a wonderful opportunity to escape my house, and stroll down Diagon Ally. I used the floo system to get there, and smirked as I saw there was nearly no one else present.
I strolled into a few different shops, just looking around, and occasionally stealing some candy or something. It wasn't like I didn't have money, it was just more fun to steal.
My mind wandered as I munched on some Berty Bott's Every Flavour Beans, and I found myself thinking about Y/n, and not for the first time.
Ever since her breakdown, she had been ignoring me, almost as if she were ashamed that I saw her like that. But she apologized in her letter, so I jumped at the opportunity to get back to communicating with her.
I liked her, I really liked her. But I wasn't sure what was going on, so I couldn't help her with whatever that episode was.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, my parents appeared in front of me. I screamed, dropping my Every Flavour Beans, and then glared at them. "What was that for?"
My gaze flicked between my parents, taking in their worried expressions.
"Um, what's wrong?"
My mom spoke first. "Do you know anyone named Y/n?"
My heart rate spiked, and my eyes widened. "Yes, is she okay? What's happened?"
Now my dad spoke. "Well, Draco, she showed up to our house and passed out on the porch, according to one of the house-elves."
"She what?! Is she okay??" I looked between the two of them, almost hyperventilating with fear for Y/n.
"Um..." My mom started, glancing at my dad, then back at me. "Well, we should probably just go see for ourselves. The elves said it's not looking good."
I ran a hand through my hair. "What are we waiting for, then?" I practically shouted at my parents, and they normally would have scolded me, but because they could see my distress, they didn't bother.
She's okay. She's okay. She has to be okay.
I felt a hand on my shoulder, and suddenly I was whisked away. My parents had apparated us to our front porch.
I immediately bolted to the door, bursting in and screaming at the house-elf. "WHERE IS SHE?!" My voice slightly cracked on the last word.
"S-sh-she's in the 4th g-guest room, Mister D-Draco." The poor house-elf replied.
I scrambled up the stairs, pulling on the handle of the door to the fourth guest room.
But as soon as I stepped in and saw her laying on the bed, my speeding heart simply stopped. All time stopped, and I couldn't breathe.
There she was, beautiful Y/n, beat up, and laying on the bed.
She'd had house-elves crowding around her, but they all stepped back when I entered.
Bruises littered her legs and arms, and her shirt was pulled up over her stomach to reveal many bruises and cuts there as well. Her left eye was swollen shut and purple, and tear stains ran down her face.
She looked awful.
But still beautiful.
How? I had no clue.
"Wh-what happened?" I whispered, at a loss for words.
None of the elves spoke up, so I reiterated. "I said, what HAPPENED?!" A few elves jumped, and one stepped forward.
"We don't know, si-"
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON'T KNOW?!?" I couldn't stop myself.
"Sh-She hasn't woken up yet."
"Well, where is the medic?!"
"On his way, sir."
I paused for a moment, taking everything in, then spoke again. "Everyone out."
"But, sir-"
"Get OUT!"
And all of the elves ran from the room, leaving me to step towards Y/n.
I sat down, holding her hand, waiting.
My mind flicked through our memories together, trying to figure out any hints that could lead to what happened.
The way she always flinched when touched.
The way she couldn't handle teases.
The way she had a breakdown when "punishment" was brought up.
The way she always showed up the first week after summer break with bruises on her hands and face.
...The way she told me her dad was gonna hurt her.
I feel like such an IDIOT! She told me she wasn't safe, and I dismissed her! I groaned, putting my head gingerly beside her shoulder on the bed.
"Dray?" I heard a hoarse whisper, and I looked up.
"Y/n? Are you okay?" My gaze flicked over her face, watching as her non-bruised eye opened, the other still too swollen.
"I... I don't want to talk about it." She barely whispered, and I watched her close her eyes again, a few tears leaking out.
"Y/n, love, I can't help if you don't tell me what's wrong!" I tried to portray all of the sympathy I was feeling into my voice. "Please tell me..."
She let out a breath, then started sobbing. I shifted uncomfortably, unaware of what to do.
"Hey, shh. You're okay!" I said unsurely.
"No, I'm not!!" I wasn't prepared for that response, so I pulled back a little.
Instead of trying to speak again, I just held her hand and played with her hair until she fell back asleep.
Finally, the medic walked in.
"You're dismissed, Mister Malfoy. I've got her from here." He laid a hand on my shoulder, patting it twice before nudging me out the door and getting to work.
I sat on my bed, completely zoned out in my thoughts. I was completely unaware that my mom had come in and was rubbing my arm up and down, or that tears were slipping down my eyes.
But at some point I must have fallen asleep, because the next thing I know, I'm dreaming of chasing Y/n down an alley way, falling more and more behind as she turns a corner and disappears. And then she's gone.
Okay, guys, tell me what you think! How do you feel about any given characters??
