Draco's POV
I climbed out of bed, running my fingers through my hair. I've never had issues with sleep before, why is this happening now? I thought. I had been tossing and turning for the past two hours. Oh, well. Might as well make myself useful.
Noticing the clock said 2:17, I turned to my nightstand, grabbing my quill and ink, as well as a worksheet for Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Supplies in hand, I stepped out of the dorm and walked down the hallway, towards the Commons. Setting my ink and quill on the table, I plopped onto the couch, leaning over the paper that I was still holding.
Stupid Umbridge. Who gives worksheets to teach how to do magic?
I heard a scream from the girls' dormitories, but decided to ignore it. They're probably just drunk. Maybe one of them stole another's boyfriend or something.
About 10 minutes later, though, I heard a door lightly open, then close again. I glanced down the hall to see Y/n coming down the stairs, her flowy hair bouncing behind her as she descended. She looked beautiful.
I quickly turned my face towards my paper before she could see, though, snapping my jaw shut-when did it open?- before she stepped in front of me.
"Malfoy. Couldn't sleep?" She sounded annoyed, but I didn't care, not really. As long as I could get her to stay down here with me.
"Yeah, I guess. Figured I might as well study. Defense is my worst subject, and we have this worksheet due tomorr-I mean, today. I haven't done any of it."
I wasn't really lying. Defense was my worst subject, but I still had an 'A'.
I watched as she looked at me skeptically, probably doubting my story, but she plopped onto the couch next to me anyways.
"I had the same idea, but with Potions. I have a test in a few days, and last year I barely passed without a 'P'," she returned.
I beamed, seizing my opportunity.
"Well if you need help, let me know. I have an 'O' in Potions. What's your Defense grade?" Maybe if I convince her I need help, she'll stay?
I didn't want to look at her. She'd see how much I like her.
"Just under an 'O'." She responded confidently. "I'm hoping the essay I just turned in bumps me up enough to get rid of my 'E'. My class is a few days ahead of yours, right? You're doing the unit on Occlumacy?"
I nodded, still gazing at the floor, willing her to continue. And she did. "Well I'll take you up on your offer to help, if you help me with my Potions review. Goodness knows I need it, but Kylie is just as bad, if not worse."
I finally fought off my blush enough to meet her eyes again. "It'd be my pleasure." UGGGHHH, why did I SAY THAT? That's so awkward!!
But Y/n didn't really seem to mind, just sighing absentmindedly and setting her Potions book on the table next to my worksheet.
We kept to ourselves for the most part, only whispering to each other when we needed help (well, I was only pretending to need help so I could talk to her. Gosh she's smart).
Until she leaned over me, placing her head right under my chin, removing some of the ink on my page with magic, and giving me instructions.
But I wasn't paying attention to any of what she was doing. I just wanted her to stay there forever.
Against my better judgement, I whispered into her hair. "You look stunning." It took all of my self-control to not kiss her head right then and there.
"Hm?" The sound of her voice brought me back to reality. "Sorry, I couldn't hear you, really."
I looked at her, gazing at her stunning eyes, her perfect nose, and her soft lips; memorizing her face before speaking. "Nothing. Never mind."
She subconsciously sighed again, then went back to work on my paper, pointing out little mistakes that I had put there on purpose-just to see if she'd notice them.
She did.
At 4:17, I finished my worksheet (I could have been much faster if I hadn't made all those "mistakes"), and Y/n stood up, collecting her book, quill, and supplies.
I watched her walk away for a moment before standing up myself, stepping towards the entrance to the boys' dorms.
But a small whisper from the other side of the room caught my attention, and all of my breath left my body. "Goodnight, Malfoy."
I smiled, then opened my mouth to return the gesture, but paused. How should I respond to a girl? I'm not used to this... I closed my eyes, responding if only for the reason of not leaving her hanging.
"Goodnight, Y/l/n."
That night, I fell asleep with a smile on my face, and a beautiful girl on my mind.
