A month had passed without major incident. Malfoy's little jabs at you continued, but you didn't let them affect you.

So now it was nearing October, and you were loving it. With fall came rain. And who doesn't like rain?

The first rain of the season came September 28th. Luckily, it was a Sunday, so you didn't have any responsibilities.

You woke up, confused as to why it was so dark, and checked your clock. 7:48. So then why isn't it brighter out? You sat in confusion until you heard the soft thrumming on your window.

You broke out into a smile and sat up. Climbing out of bed, you rushed to get changed.

After getting dressed, you skipped breakfast and bolted straight outside to the courtyard. You ran across the wet grass, getting soaked completely, and no doubt ruining your pants with mud.

But you didn't care.

After reaching the lake, you spun in a circle a few times and laughed. You missed this. This child-like freedom.

So you laid yourself down on the grass and closed your eyes, relishing the peace that came with the rain pouring down over your body.

You hadn't felt this kind of peace in so long. It felt like it washed all of your anxiety away. Everything with your dad, your brother, friends, school, Malfoy.

"What are you doing?" A scornful voice shoved your thoughts aside and ruined your peace.

Speak of the devil.

"What does it look like I'm doing, Malfoy?" You retorted, sitting up and glaring at him.

"Looks like you're sleeping in the rain. And the mud. Ew."

"Well, I'm not sleeping, I'm relaxing. Why do you care what I'm doing?"

"I dunno, I don't want you to get sick out here."

"Aw, does Malfoy care about me?" You stuck out your bottom lip, mocking him.

"Wh-no, I-no, I don't- I don't care about you. Don't be ridiculous."

You laughed at the ridiculous look on his face as he stammered.

"Mmm-hm. Then what are you doing out here? Because if you're going to mess with me, I'm just going to ignore you."

He sighed, then turned around to walk away, then stopped as you laid back down on the cool grass. After a moment's hesitation, you heard his footsteps get closer again, and he lowered himself onto the grass beside you.

You gave him a skeptical glance, but left it alone.

The silence was comfortable as you both allowed yourselves to get soaked in the pouring rain, eyes closed.

Malfoy's voice shocked you out of your relaxation... again.

"So, how's your month been?" Is he serious right now?

"Other than being bullied and told to kill myself every day?"

He winced. Good, you deserve it. "Yeah... sorry about that." What is going on?? "I shouldn't have said those things."

You sat up and looked at him in the eye. "Okay, so let me get this straight. You hate me for all of the first four years of school, then you're nice to me for one night. Go back to being mean for a month, and now you're being nice again? How do I know you won't just go back to hurting me tomorrow?"

Malfoy sat up next to you. "Because I understand now how that hurt. I never meant any of those things, I just said them to get on some people's good side. But I didn't mean it. I don't mean it."

You could see the remorse in his gaze, but you weren't ready to forgive him. Not yet. "Prove it."

"How?"

"Don't insult me any more. Don't make any hurtful comments. I don't forgive you, but if you can give me a reason why I should, I'll consider it."

A smile spread across his face, and he stuck his hand in front of him. "Deal!"

You grabbed his hand and shook, then rolled your eyes at his expression. He looked... giddy? Like he was up late and would laugh at the stupidest thing.

Laying back down, you sighed absentmindedly.

"Why do you always sigh subconsciously?" Malfoy butted in.

"What do you mean?"

"Like whenever you're peaceful or whatever, you sigh. Why?"

"I don't know, Malfoy."

"Oh."

A few moments of silence passed until, again, Malfoy spoke.

"What's your favorite color?"

"Can you shut up? I'm trying to relax in the rain before it ends."

"Sorry."

A couple minutes later, though, your conscience caught up with you, and you responded.

"Icy blue."

"What?"

"You asked my favorite color. It's icy blue."

"Okay. Mine is green." Of course it is.

You decided to continue the awkward questions. "Umm. What do you do when you're bored, or to blow off steam?"

"Oh, I like to read. Or make potions. You?" Draco Malfoy likes to read? Okay then.

"I like to run. Like go for a run."

"Wanna do that right now?"

You considered his request. "In the rain?"

"Sure, why not?"

"Okay..."

You both stood up, and before you could ask "Where are we running?", Malfoy took off towards the castle.

Letting out a soft chuckle, you chased after him.

1 hour later

You walked into the castle, panting for breath, with Malfoy beside you. You were both soaked and laughing.

"That was awesome!" He exclaimed.

"Yeah! Thanks for making me run, I really needed that." You returned.

And as you made your way through the halls and towards the Common Room, chatting and laughing, you couldn't help but hope that Malfoy was serious when he said he'd change.

"Bye, Malfoy, seeya at lunch."

"Bye, Y/l/n."

You went your separate ways up to your dorms, soaking wet and smiling.
