As you stepped into your dorm, dripping and beaming, you noticed two figures on Kylie's bed.
Kylie and Pansy.
They both glanced your way. "Oh! You're back! And... wet? What happened?" Kylie questioned.
You shrugged, still smiling more than you thought possible. "I was playing in the rain."
Pansy looked at you skeptically. "Playing? You're fifteen."
"And?" You attempted to glare at her as she rolled her eyes, but failed since you still couldn't wipe the grin off your face.
"Uh, okay, then." Kylie inserted herself into the tense conversation. "Well why don't you get changed, and we'll finish our talk. Yeah?"
You shrugged and grabbed a new outfit from the closet: a white cropped T-shirt and jeans with a green cardigan over-top.
(Your outfit^)
As you did your makeup in the bathroom, you were able to pick up on some of the other girls' conversation.
"...yeah, but just because he likes someone else doesn't mean you don't have a chance. He is known for getting over people quickly." That's Kylie.
"But he's liked her for so long, I don't know what to do. I don't even know who it is, so I can't sabotage her." Pansy.
"Yeah, so instead of making her less likeable, make yourself more likeable. Have you tried flirting with him?"
"Well, duh. But he always brushes me off."
"Why don't you just tell him? Ask him out?"
"Oh, yeah, just go up to him and say 'Hey, Draco, wanna go out with me?' like, no. I'm not doing that."
Your smile dropped as soon as you heard Malfoy's name. Why? You didn't know.
But Kylie's argument just messed you up even more. "If he doesn't have a girlfriend, he's free. It doesn't hurt to ask."
After a moment's silence, Pansy responded. "Okay. I'll ask him after lunch today."
You finished your makeup by this point, and opened the door, plastering on a fake smile as you stepped into the dorm.
"What time is it?" You asked, ignoring the fact that you could see the clock.
"Eleven thirty-four." Kylie said, glancing at her wrist.
"Okay, I'm going to lunch. Bye!" You started towards the door, dropping your smile as you walked out.
Why does it hurt so much that she likes Malfoy? I don't even like him.
Sure. Keep telling yourself that.
Shut up, brain, I don't.
As you made your way to the Great Hall for lunch, you considered this morning with Malfoy.
The way he apologized. The way he made conversation. The way he ran with you after you told him that's what you like.
The way he made you unable to stop smiling.
Even just thinking about him made you smile, so you walked into the Hall with a renewed grin on your face.
Sitting down at the Slytherin table, you picked up a sandwich off of the plate.
You shouldn't eat that.
Yeah... I'll just have half.
You ate about half of the sandwich, and threw the rest away, just barely standing up when Kylie, Pansy, and Daphne walked in, chatting and laughing.
You couldn't hear what they were saying over the noise of the Great Hall, but they kept looking at Malfoy, so you assumed it was a continuation of Pansy and Kylie's conversation earlier.
You stood up the rest of the way, heading towards the exit, but someone grabbed your arm and you flinched.
"Wait, where are you going?" You looked up to see Malfoy holding your forearm and looking at you with... concern, maybe? No, Malfoy doesn't get concerned. It must just be interest.
"Um, nowhere. Just my dorm." You responded, pulling your arm away.
"Are you sure? You've barely eaten." I mean, he promised he'd stop bullying me... maybe he's serious?
You looked at him uneasily, wondering what was going on. He couldn't be serious. No one changes that fast. But then again...
No.
No, he's gotta be joking.
"I'm sure, I'm not hungry."
"Umm, okay. Well, at least bring this with you." He held out an apple. "In case you're hungry later."
Is this a trick?
You grabbed the apple apprehensively. "Okay, then. Bye, Malfoy."
"Bye, Y/l/n."
That was such a weird interaction.
As you made your way toward your dorm, you noticed a first year bolt past you. Wha... oh, well. Not my business.
You stepped down the stairs to the dungeon, where the Slytherin Common Room is.
Suddenly, a prissy voice sounded behind you.
"Well, hello, Miss Y/l/n! Where are you going?" Ugh. Not this lady.
You turned around to face the pink teacher. "Oh, hi, Professor Umbridge! I didn't see you, what a pleasure." Your voice was heavy with sarcasm. "I was just heading to my dorm room. Is that prohibited now, too? Along with, like, everything else?"
Her smile became forced. "I think detention would suit that attitude well, Miss Y/l/n. My office, ten minutes. Got it?"
You rolled your eyes. "Got it, Professor."
She huffed out a 'hm', and turned away to head back to her office.
After watching her for a few more seconds, you went to your dorm and sat on your bed, mentally preparing yourself for detention. You've never done detention with Umbridge, but she'd probably make you write lines until your hand cramps up or something.
After 15 minutes, you stood up and walked to detention, hoping to annoy her even more by being late.
