Three days before the dance, Katsuki gets a text message from Kaminari that he can't go out on the date because his mother is making him take extra college classes to hurry the process of finishing college. Katsuki understood that because his mom wasn't the most significant person in the world, it saddened him because he had everything planned for the evening.
Katsuki stared at his phone in disbelief as he read Kaminari's message. His heart sank, and disappointment and frustration washed over him. He had been looking forward to their date at the dance, and now it seemed like all his plans were falling apart.
"Are you serious?" Katsuki typed back, his fingers tapping the screen with a hint of anger.
Kaminari's reply came quickly, and there was a sense of genuine regret in his words. "I'm sorry, Katsuki. My mom is adamant about me finishing college early and making me take these extra classes. I tried to reason with her, but she won't budge."
Katsuki's mind was a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. He understood the pressures of Kaminari's situation, yet the abrupt change of plans left him feeling hurt and disappointed. The fact that they had agreed to the date the day before only added to his frustration. He had eagerly anticipated their time together, and now it seemed like those plans were slipping away.
As he read Kaminari's apology, Katsuki's anger clashed with his affection for his boyfriend. He knew Kaminari didn't mean this to happen, but that didn't erase the disappointment that washed over him.
"Fine. Do what you need to do," he typed, his fingers tapping forcefully against the screen. "I'll figure something out for tonight."
With a sense of finality, he hit send and tossed his phone onto his bed. He leaned back, his jaw still clenched, and stared at the ceiling. His mind raced as he tried to devise an alternative plan for the evening. He had been so focused on the original date that he hadn't considered any backup options.
Katsuki's frustration morphed into determination. He wasn't about to let the evening go to waste. If he couldn't have the planned date, he would create a new plan. He thought about what he and Kaminari enjoyed doing together and how he could salvage the night.
As he brainstormed ideas, a spark of inspiration ignited within him. He sat up, a small smile tugging at his lips. He knew what he was going to do.
Katsuki grabbed his phone and typed out a message to Kaminari.
"Plans may have changed, but that doesn't mean we can't make tonight special. Meet me at the park in an hour."
Katsuki's heart sank as he read the message from Kaminari. His newfound determination started to waver, and a mix of disappointment and frustration washed over him once again. He sat there, his phone in hand, struggling to process the situation.
"Babes, I'm serious. I can't leave the house today; I'm sorry," The message repeated in his mind. He knew Kaminari wasn't doing this intentionally, but the constant changes took a toll on his emotions.
He typed out a reply, his fingers moving slowly this time.
"I get it. It's fine."
As he hit send, Katsuki sighed and leaned back against his pillows. He felt torn between understanding Kaminari's circumstances and longing for a special evening together. The frustration he had tried to push aside was now creeping back in, and he struggled to keep it in check.
Katsuki's frustration and suspicion had reached a boiling point, and he knew he couldn't ignore his instincts. He needed answers and turned to his best friend, Kirishima, for help. Dialing Kirishima's number, Katsuki leaned against the wall in his room, his mind racing about what could be happening with Kaminari.
