"I have some good news, kiddos!" My father announced at the dinner table. "Mommy got cleared today for her special treatment. That means she'll be in the hospital for a few days to get it."

I smiled but remained cautious not to get my hopes up. "That's great, mom!" I cheered and received a tired smile from her as she sat across the table.

The chemotherapy drains her terribly, both physically and mentally. I vaguely remember my mother before she got sick, but it's been eight years. My siblings, however, only know this version of her.

"Thanks, sweetie," She said softly and my heart broke for her. Why do horrible things happen to good people? My mother was a preschool teacher before she got sick. It pains me to know that the kids she taught probably missed her terribly when she left.

We finished eating soon after. "CeCe and Theo, go help Genie clean up dinner while I get mommy ready for bed. Please and thank you." They both nodded in unison and began collecting the plates off the table.

They were both very well-behaved, at least when they wanted to be, but at the end of the day, kids will be kids. It amazes me every day that their willingness to help out grows.

We carried all the dishes into the kitchen and Celine helped me rinse and put them in the dishwasher as Theodore wiped down the table. "Did you meet anyone at school today?"

"Yeah! A nice girl named Mina and a cute boy named Elijah!" I raised my eyebrows at her and she giggled. "Cute boy, eh?" I teased and she turned her face away in embarrassment.

"I met a couple of those today," I said and she turned her head back to look at me. "Ooh, tell me! What are their names?" I put the last dish in the dishwasher and closed it up before starting it.

"Well, one of them is Georg and he has long brown hair like me. Another one is Gustav and he has blonde hair like you and Theo." She smiled as I told her about them.

"And then, you won't believe this," She shook with excitement at my tone. "Tell me! What?" I picked her up and placed her on the counter.

"I met two other boys and they're twins, just like you and Theo!" She clapped in excitement. "One of them is Bill and he is super sweet. He's got spiked, black hair and dresses like a rockstar." My tone made her even more excited.

"Then the other one is Tom and he's really cute, but he's not as nice as Bill." Her smile faded and turned into a frown. "We don't like mean boys." She said while crossing her arms.

"And what do we do to boys who are mean to us?" I raised an eyebrow and she began to giggle. "Kick 'em where the sun doesn't shine." She pretended to kick her foot while still giggling.

"That's right!" I said proudly as I helped her off the counter. "Go check on Theo," I said and she ran out of the kitchen quickly. I shook my head as she did so while laughing.

I looked around the kitchen to make sure I didn't miss anything and headed toward the doorway before turning the lights off.

"Woah, good job, dude!" I cheered as I gave Theodore a high five. "Time to go get ready for bed!" I shooed them away and they both headed toward the stairs rather quickly.

I followed closely behind them as they climbed the stairs and went straight the the bathroom to brush their teeth. I went into their bedroom and pulled out pajamas for them, setting them out on their beds.

They quickly ran back in. "Smell test!" I said as I bent down and they both blew air into my face. "Good job, guys. Get dressed and we'll go say good night to mommy." I clapped my hands together once and walked into the hallway.
