Tom's POV

I walked around my room, tidying up and putting things where they belonged. Occasionally, I'd glance over at Genevieve who was still sound asleep on my bed. I've been thinking about everything since last night.

I was disappointed that she invaded my privacy last night, but I wasn't angry with her considering she could have reacted differently than she did. I never planned on telling her or her finding out, that's why I never told Bill either.

I was hoping I'd be able to get through it on my own but then Genevieve's mother passed and the only thing that I cared about was taking care of her. I also never intended to tell her I loved her because I wasn't even sure myself, but it felt right.

I walked over to my desk, picked up the notebook, and tossed it into the trash can. I heard movement and turned my head to see her shifting in bed. I stopped and watched as she slowly sat up. "I'm sorry, Schön. I didn't mean to wake you up."

She rubbed her eyes and looked over at me. "It's alright. What time is it?" She asked, stretching her arms out. "Like nine something," I told her and she nodded before standing up.

"Wow, this is the cleanest I've seen your room." She said with light laughter as she looked around. "Yeah," I mumbled. "Just wanted to clean up a bit," I told her and she came over to me.

"How'd you sleep?" I asked her and she shrugged her shoulders. "Alright, I guess. I'm sorry for crashing in here last night." She said and I shook my head. "I was going to be sad if you didn't," I joked and she smiled.

"Aw, you poor thing," She teased, pushing out her bottom lips. "I better get dressed so I can head home." She said as she walked around me to get to the bathroom and I grabbed her wrist softly.

"Stay for breakfast?" I asked her and she shook her head. "Not hungry," She said and I tilted my head slightly. "Genevieve," I said quietly. "Why aren't you eating?" I asked as I let go of her wrist.

"I am, sorta," She answered and I let out a sigh. "You promised me." I reminded her and she rolled her eyes. "Yeah, I know," She mumbled, her eyes refusing to look at mine.

"Then why aren't you eating?" I asked her, moving my head to follow her gaze. She didn't say anything and I let out a quick sigh. "Schön," I said lowly and her head came back up, her eyes meeting mine.

"Please, Tom, just let it go. I can't do this right now." She whispered. "You need to take care of yourself, Genie," I told her and she narrowed her eyes at me. "I don't really think you're the one to talk right now."

"Schön, please. I'm trying here." I said. "I don't want to overwhelm you but I want to be here for you. I want you to know just how much I care about you without pushing you away." I admit.

Her expression softened and her hand fell loosely to her side. "I'm sorry," She whispered, shaking her head. "Don't apologize, Genie. I can't imagine what you're going through right now."

"Yeah," She mumbled, scoffing lightly. "I'm just going to head home." She said, wrapping her arms around my torso. "I appreciate everything you're doing for me," She said quietly and I nodded, hugging her back. "But I'm not ready to forgive, not just yet."

"I understand, Schön." I told her and it was true. I destroyed any type of trust she had in me and that's something that I'll just have to work on to earn back. She pulled away and looked up at me, smiling softly.
