"My babies!" Our mother cheered as the twins ran over to her bed, climbing onto it and attacking her with hugs. "How are you feeling, sweetheart?"
"Good, honey," She answered with a smile. "Going in for the second round later today. Doctors have high hopes." I smiled widely as I sat down on the bottom of the bed.
"Your dad tells me you hung out with some friends last night?" My mother raised an eyebrow and smiled. "Yeah, they're good people." She reached down for my hand and gave it a squeeze.
"I am so happy for you, love bug. I know how hesitant you are to make friends because of how often we move. This time will be different, I can feel it." It has been so long since I've seen my mother so optimistic about her treatment.
"Sure, Mom," I said with a smile and she looked back up at my father. "Did you bring me more clothes?" He nodded quickly before pulling the bag off of his shoulders. "And a few books," He added and she smiled.
"You know me so well," She said as she reached her hand up to his arm. "That's what twenty years of marriage will do," He said before placing a kiss on her forehead.
I hope to find love like my parents have someday. They truly set the bar high and I won't accept anything less. My father says he falls more in love with my mother each day.
He always reminds her that when he took his vows, he truly meant in sickness and in health. He is completely devoted to my mother, in all ways imaginable. He thinks she is the most beautiful woman in the world.
There were a couple of knocks on the door and we all turned our heads to see a doctor walk in. "Brought the whole gang here?" He asked excitedly and my mother nodded with a smile.
"You met the twins yesterday, but this is my oldest, Genevieve," My mother said as she pointed to me and I waved. "She has been a major help at home since I got sick. Even as young as nine years old, she stepped up."
"Nice to meet you, Genevieve," He said kindly before walking over to the computer. "Your recent labs are looking fantastic," He started.
"Hopefully after this next round, we can discuss a discharge date." He finished and my mother smiled widely. "Anything to be home with my family again."

"Genie!" Bill said excitedly as I stepped onto the bus. He motioned me to come sit down next to him and I did. Georg took the empty seat next to Tom and Gustav sat down in an empty seat in front of me and Bill.
"How are you?" He asked. "Great, I went to see my mom yesterday." Bill smiled. "How is she doing?" I shrugged my shoulders, not wanting to get my hopes up.
"Doctors say everything is looking good," I said. "Hoping to discharge her sometime this week if things go okay." Bill smiled widely. "Well, I hope all is well at the Duval home."
"No offense to my mom, but we've been managing to run the house by ourselves for eight years now," I said with light laughter. "Eight years? Wow," Bill said, amazed and I nodded.
The rest of the ride was silent and soon we arrived in front of the school. Gustav stepped out and I stepped off, letting Bill go in front of me as he tried to Gustav's attention.
"Hey, Schön," (Beautiful) I heard Tom say from behind me and I rolled my eyes without looking back. We walked off the bus one by one, saying goodbye to Gustav as we walked through the doors to our first class.
Bill and I followed behind Tom and Georg. Almost every single girl we passed along the way we're practically drooling over the two of them, mostly Tom. "Hey, Tommy," They'd say, their voice insufferable.
