Emilio

The compound was in shambles. Both sides had sustained heavy losses. Dr. Ortega and Sean had worked themselves to the bone trying to save all they could. I worried about what would happen when Sean had a moment to take in what his own family had suffered. Silas was in a coma, never regaining consciousness after the attack. Victor's leg had been severely damaged and they still didn't know if they could save it or if he would ever have full use of it again. Tori had coded twice on the operating table and was now in the same room as Silas. Her vitals seemed steady, but she had yet to awaken.

As for our family, things had been touch and go with Axel for several hours, but he was now awake. Sean had placed Mattie in the hospital to monitor the baby. Between the fall and the trauma, he was concerned about the risk of a miscarriage. When we had to break the news to her that both Rico and Lorna had been killed, she was hysterical. We didn't give her the full details.

They had been Carlos's calling card.

While Vivian was in with Mattie and Tori, Carlos had cornered the pair and done ungodly things to their bodies, leaving them posed for me to find along with his challenge to meet face to face.

Mattie's grandfather, Alberto, had been shot in the back and was in the hospital wing as well. I had a spinal specialist flying in this afternoon to evaluate his injuries. Kota's mother and the Taylor's uncle were coming in as well as a few former Academy connections.

"Emilio," Mattie whispered from the bed. Brandon and Marc were in with Axel, while Corey and Raven had fallen asleep on the small sofa in the room.

"Hey little mouse, how are you feeling?" I asked her, stepping closer to the bed.

She touched the belly ribbon that let us hear the baby's heartbeat and smiled, "As long as she keeps kicking, I'm good."

My eyes widened, "She...she kicked?"

"Yes, Daddy, she kicked," she grinned and placed my hand on the side of her stomach.

I felt tears rush to my eyes as a little foot pushed against my hand. "That's..." I stammered.

"That's our daughter, Emilio," she said softly, putting her hand on top of mine.

Owen came into the room, "Silas is awake!"

Mattie tried to sit up, but I put my hand on her shoulder. "Not so fast, little mouse. You are on bedrest." She huffed and rolled her eyes.

"I let him know you and the baby are okay," Owen assured her and gave her a quick peck on the forehead, then darted back out of the room as Corey and Raven came closer to her bed.

"Good to see you awake, little one," Corey said, rubbing his eyes before placing a kiss on her lips.

"Da, krolik, you had us worried," Raven said, taking her hand.

"I passed out guys, I'm pregnant. It happens. It could have been far worse," her voice dropped at that statement. Knowing that her grandmother had shot Tori and she couldn't help her weighed heavily on her. We knew the only thing we could do now, was just be there for her through it all and pray that the others made it. "Has the surgeon arrived yet?" she asked.

"He should be here in a couple of hours, little mouse. I put him on the same jet as the Blackbourne family members. Better to have everyone in a safe location," I told her.

"Father arrived last night. He would like to meet you, if you feel up to it, krolik," Raven said gently.

Her eyes lit up. "He wants to meet me?"

"You are zhena and future koroleva to Ravenstahl empire. Of course, he wants to meet you," he laughed.

"Racking up quite the criminal dynasty aren't you, little one," Corey chuckled as her eyes widened. "At least the rest of us are just boring, regular husbands."

"Ha, definitely not boring or regular," she smirked and he grinned wider before kissing her lips.

Sean knocked at the door, "How's my favorite sister-in-law and soon-to-be niece doing this morning?"

I frowned when I saw the dark circles under his eyes. He was running himself ragged. "We are good, but you, Sean, look like shit. When was the last time you slept or even ate anything?"

He didn't answer, but Owen did as he came up and wrapped his arms around him, "Two days for sleep, and unless you count a large cup of coffee, then he hasn't eaten in at least a day or more."

"Traitor," Sean muttered.

"Only because I love you and you can't keep pushing yourself like this," Owen chided him. "Please, you need to rest. You can't help them if you're in a hospital bed from exhaustion."

"He's right, Sean. You've taken care of everyone. It's just a waiting game now. Let Owen take care of you. We will come and get you if anything changes," I told him.

"Fine," he huffed. "But before I go, I wanted to tell you that Kota's mom is a nurse and she offered to keep an eye on you once she arrives."

Mattie smiled, "I can't wait to meet her."
