We almost reached Miano's room when Nathan suddenly stops. Confused I look over at him.
“What’s wrong?”
He takes both my hands in his and then looks into my eyes with a look of concern.
“Are you alright, Amore? This was quite a day and then you had to deal with Carter as well.”
The care and concern showing in his eyes at this moment warmed my heart beyond words. I think in this life, even after death, I could never love someone more than I love him. They say the eyes are the window to your soul, and what true words those are. That is why I knew Nathan loves me more than he could ever say with words.
I tilt my head smiling up at him.
“With you by my side, nothing is ever too much or too hard. Thank you, Nathan.”
He pulls me into his arms and then wraps his arms around me. As my head rests against his chest I listen to his heartbeat sounding like a lullaby.
Nathan pulls away from the hug.
“We should go in before the food gets cold.” He takes my hand as we walk into the room.
Miamo is lying alone in the VIP room. I Look around the room, seeing a luxury two-seater couch against one wall, a big window on the other side, and a television in front of the hospital bed.
My heart breaks seeing Dr. Martin's worried expression as he is looking toward Miano while holding Miano's hand.
“Dr. Martin…?” I call out to him.
He noticed us standing at the door.
“We brought you some food, we thought you may be hungry, please eat with us?” I lift the bag for him to see.
He instantly smiles at me. “Thank you, Amore, I would like that.”
“Will Alfred be joining us? I also got him something.” I look around the room but Alfred was not there.
“No, he has some things to take care of.”
“O okay, can we go eat outside?”
He looks over at Miano as if he is contemplating whether or not, he wants to leave Miano alone.
“We can also eat here, I just thought the fresh air, would do you some good?”
“No, your right, I have been wanting to take a walk to stretch these old legs of mine.” He stands up, giving Miano's hand a last squeeze before he lets go.
As we walk down the hall we see Alfred coming from the front, walking directly toward Dr. Martin.
“Has it been taken care of?” Dr. Martin asks Alfred
“Yes, it will take three days.”
Alfred looks over at us and then asks Dr. Martin “Are you going for a walk, sir?”
“Yes, we are going downstairs to eat. Please wait with Miano until I get back”
Alfred nods turned around and walk toward Miano's room.
We walk downstairs, taking our seats at the picnic table outside. I hand out everyone's food and we start eating.
Dr. Martin looks at Nathan. “What’s your future, plan with Amore, Boy?”
Nathan looked shocked at Dr. Martin. He cleared his throat “hem… what do you mean?”
“Do not play dumb with me boy. Are you going to marry this girl?”
I wanted to giggle at Dr.Martin’s serious face while Nathan’s face look shocked.
“Of course… I'm marrying her sir…Why are you asking me such questions right now?” Nathan looks at him confused.
“Do I have to have a reason boy…? Remember if you take too long I will introduce her to some other fine lad.”
“Sir….” Nathan grabs my hand as if though I will disappear right this instant.”
“I can guarantee you, he may just disappear…Amore is mine and mine alone. No other man can have her except me. I will fight until my last breath for her!”
Dr. Martin narrows his eyes at Nathan and then continues eating.
Nathan looks away furious.
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Looking at Nathan's sour face, a crazy idea popped into my head, I then squeeze Nathan's hand for reinsurance.
“I just want to make a quick phone call can you give me a second?”
“ Yeah… just stay near.”
Oh, this over-protective man of mine. Shaking my head I walk a few meters away.
I quickly made my phone call and then walk back.
“Is everything alright?”
“I clap my hands excitedly… YEAH… I have a BIG surprise for you… but we must go now…” I look over to Dr. Martin. “Will you be alright on your own for a while? We just have something quick to do.”
“I'll be fine, I should anyways be heading back, hopefully, Miano has woken up. I'll see you both later.” He stands up walks around the table towards me squeezes my shoulder, then walks away.
“What are you up to, Amore?”
“Do you have your identity card with you?” I asked him excitedly.
Nathan frowned, looking at me confused…
“Yeah, I do… why?”
“It's a surprise… come hurry.” I grab him by the hand, walking with fast steps toward the car while dragging Nathan along.
“Suprise!!!” I look at him with a big smile.
Nathan looks with a confusing experience outside the window toward the probate court office and then back at me.
“Amore… what are we doing here?”
“We my dear soon-to-be husband are getting our marriage license.”
“Are you serious Amore? Please do not joke with me…” He looks at me with anticipation.
“I’m serious Nathan… I am not joking with you…
Don't you want to marry me?”
“What?? Of course, I do… you know I wanted to marry you the second I saw you.”
“Good…then let's go.”
I reach for the handle wanting to get out, but Nathan grabs my hand. I look confused over at him.
“What’s wrong?” I ask him.
“Don't you want a big proposal?”
I turn my body towards him taking his face in my hands.
“Life is too short. You know I don't care about that kind of thing. I am forever yours so why wait? Let’s start our happily ever after!”
He moves forward so our lips could touch, his warm soft lips pressed against mine, his lips part slightly, allowing my tongue to slip inside.
I can taste our shared breaths as I suck on his tongue. With a shaky breath, he slowly pulls back from our kiss, then presses his forehead against mine.
“Thank you for this, Amore! This is the best surprise I have ever gotten. You are the best thing that has happened to my life, and I promise you, I will protect you with my life, and I will forever cherish you. All of me will forever belong to you.”
“I know silly…” I give him a quick kiss on the lips.
“You better always remember that! Now quickly, let's go…!!” Nathan said excitedly.
We both climbed out and walk hand in hand toward the court.
