Blinking my eyes, I give him a tight smile. He Looked straight into my eyes, like his challenging me. Oh game on! I’m not the same Mia you met back then. If he wants to play, I’ll play. Raising one eyebrow I looked to his hand, telling him with my eyes, you can let go now. He smirked back at me. Slowly releasing his hold. I turned around with a quick twirl. My ponytail hitting him straight in the face. Walking away with spring in my step.

If you want to wait. I will let you wait. Slowly I went and picked up my bags, walking up the stairs to my room. Having a long warm shower, I dressed myself in blue jeans and a black and pink floral shirt.

Lying down on my bed, thinking to myself. I shouldn’t have to feel bad for letting him wait right? I didn’t invite him. Well, he should be gone when I wake up, right? I slowly closed my eyes drifting to sleep.

Waking up, the room has started to get dark. Stretching out my arms giving a yawn, throwing the covers off I dragged my body out of bed looking through the window. Yellow, red and orange colors spread across the sky letting the sun show it’s last beauty before it finally disappears, letting the night’s darkness take over.

Combing my hair with my fingers, having a quick look at myself before I go and meet Joe. Heading downstairs with a spring in my step. “Joe?”

“In the Kitchen, Amore.”

“Oo that smells…” Stopping dead in my tracks. Oh, crap I forgot about you.

Nathan is standing in front of the stove cooking something that’s smells divine.

“Good, you’re up. Nathan is making dinner. I invited him to spend the night, it’s already starting to get dark. We can’t let him drive back in the dark now, can we, Amore?”

WHAT?? I almost screamed out loud. His going to sleep here?

Nathan turned around seeing me standing in the doorway, giving me self-satisfied smirk.

“Joe, I think Mr. Nathan here is quite an extremely busy man, why would he want to stay the night, besides doesn’t he have someone waiting for him at home? I tilted my head looking at Nathan with a sarcastic smile.

Joe looked at Nathan with a frown. “From when do you have someone waiting for you at home, I thought you lived alone?”

Nathan turned around and continued with the food. Shrugging his shoulders. “This is the first time I also hear about it, Joe.” Looking at me over his shoulders, giving me a wink “Maybe Amore knows something we don’t.”

“How would I know, I don’t even know you.” I said while taking a seat.

“Amore is starting her internship next month. Maybe you can introduce her to Dr. Martin. I already informed him about her. He would love to meet her.”

I looked at Joe. “Who is Dr. Martin?”

“His an old friend of mine. Maybe he can take you in as one of his students.”

Nathan started plating up the food and placed a plate in front of Joe, taking his seat next to me with his plate.

“Hey where’s my food?” I looked at his plate puzzled.

“Thank you.” Sliding his plate over to me, looking at him with a cheeky smile.

“This looks delicious Nathan.” I started eating not bothered with the shocked look on his face.

Nathan stood up getting himself another plate of food, taking his seat this time next to Joe.

Joe looked at the two of us giving a small chuckle.

“How do you two know each other?” I pointed between them.

“I’m friends with his father.” Joe said, looking down at his food, he continued eating.

“So, are you going to tell me why you went missing for four years, or do you want me to move in with you and Joe before you will tell me?” Before the words could leave my mouth, he continued. “Do you know how long Carolyne searched for you? She even got me and Nick involved. You just vanished overnight. After a week you still didn’t show up. Carolyne made us go to your house, your father is one big jerk by the way. He told us, you don’t exist to them.  Carolyne tried speaking to your mom, but she just stood behind your dad saying nothing. We thought they killed you. We thought you were dead!”

I looked down and started fiddling with my hand. What should I tell him? That my dad almost killed me that night. That I had to run away scared that if anyone found me, they would take me back to him.

I knew he is staring at me anticipating, waiting for an answer. I looked up meeting his eyes.

“I lost my phone with Carolyne’s number on. I don’t know her number.” Astonished he looked at me.

“Well, you have a lot of explaining to do. I know you don’t trust or know me, but you owe Carolyne an explanation. When we are done eating you can use my phone to call her.” I just gave him a nod, looking down at my food. I don’t even have an appetite anymore.
