The greatest gift you can receive is another day of life. Live for today and dream for tomorrow.
“Shhh, Carolyne not so loud…!” Amore said while holding onto her head.
“I…I need… I need to get the doctor…” Carolyne screamed as she jumped out of the chair and ran out of the room shouting for a doctor.
Rachel quickly ran out of the bathroom as she heard the commotion in the room, almost having a heart attack. Nathan jumped off the couch almost tripping over his feet as he ran toward Amore. Nathan stopped a foot away from Amore, surprised.
“Amore?” He walked towards her as the tears ran down his cheeks… he leaned over her and gently hugged her. “Thank goodness!!! You scared me to death. Don't you ever, ever, ever do that again?” Nathan spoke with his mouth against Amore's hair.
“Shhh…" She patted him on the back.
“Nathan… water please…” Amore said in a hoarse voice.
Rachel, walked forward throwing her a glass of water.
“Here darling.”
Nathan released Amore from the hug so Rachel could hand Amore the glass of water. Amore lifted her eyebrow and looked puzzled at Rachel. ‘What a beautiful woman,’ Amore thought to herself. Before she could take the glass. The doctor came hurrying in with Dr. Martin. Nathan stood to the side making room for the doctor but never took his eyes off Amore. The doctor did his examination and looked extremely impressed.
“I will send the nurse with your pain meds.”
“Thank you,” Amore said,
“You gave us quite a scare young lady. You are extremely lucky you are still alive. If your husband and grandfather didn't get to you when they did, you would have died.”
Amore looked around the room at all the worried expressions. She looked at Rachel and then slowly motioned for the water. The doctor pressed the bed up with the remote so Amore could be in a sitting position, while Rachel walked forward with the glass of water.
“Can I help you or will you be able to drink yourself,” Rachel asked with a tender voice.
“I'll manage. Thank you.” Amore said while smiling at Rachel, before Rachel could hand Amore the glass, Nathan came forward and took it from his mom.
“I'll help her mom, thank you.”
Amore smiled at Nathan. He gently held the back of her head while holding the glass at her lips slowly tipping it as she drank. He took away the glass when she was done.
“You must take it slowly Amore. We don't want your wound to tear open. I’ll see you later. I think you have a lot of questions.” The doctor said as he looked around at everyone in the room. He nodded at Dr. Martin and then walked out of the room.
Amore looked at Rachel… not knowing how to address her. Rachel smiled at her.
“You better call me mom. I am not pleased with Nathan for not letting us meet you sooner.”
“It's not his fault… ow…”Amore hissed out in pain.
“Ahh, darling you don't have to speak, take it slow.” Rachel said out of concern.
Just then Steven walked into the room with two coffees looking confused at everyone. He turned toward Amore. A look of relief could be seen on his face as he looked at her.
“And this here…” Rachel motioned with her hand for Steven to come to her. “Is Steven, Nathan’s father, but you also call him dad.”
Amore smiled and nodded at Rachel. Amore turned her head toward Dr. Martin who looked at her concerned.
“Grandfather?” Amore asked while tilting her head at him questionably.
“Yes… I am.” Dr. Martin answered with uncertainty about what he should say.
“Where… is… my father?” Amore asked as she looked around the room.
“Your… father is on his way… I mean Miano is on his way.” Dr. Martin didn't want to say anything that could upset her.
Amore smiled at him reassuringly. “That's great.”
Dr. Martin looked at her astonished. “You know?”
Amore nodded. Every time she spoke it hurt… So she didn’t want to speak too much.
“Can … can I hug you?” Dr. Martin asked nervously. He was beyond scared when he saw her so weak in bed, he thought he would never get the chance to hold his granddaughter. He knew he was being silly and that she would wake up, but that’s the thing with life, nothing ever stayed the same, every day that passed was unpredictable, and every day something could change.
She smiled… then nodded… Dr. Martin walked forward and gently put his arms around her and softly hugged her. Dr. Martin's eyes welled up with tears of joy, as he held onto Amore.
“Ahem… I think that’s enough. We all want to hold her.” Nathan said sternly as he rubbed the back of his head.
“With all, you mean yourself.” Rachel said as she shook her head at her jealous son.
The room was too full for Nathan’s liking. He wanted to be alone with his wife. He wanted to crawl next to her and just held unto her and sleep until the next morning. Nathan wanted to chase all the people out of the room, but he knew he could not do that.
As Dr. Martin pulled back from the hug, Carolyne came forward wanting to take her turn to hug Amore. Nathan grabbed the hem of her shirt holding her back.
“Don’t you have to go spy on James?” Nathan looked irritated at Carolyne.
Carolyne slapped Nathan’s hand away from her shirt. She narrowed her eyes and pointed her finger at him.
“YOU! I have been doing non of such things!”
“Aha.. if you say so.” Nathan narrowed his eyes back at her.
“Nathan, don’t be such an ass. Amore is my best friend and I will stay here and hug her as much as I want.” Carolyne said with attitude.
“You…”
Before the two could continue bickering there was a knock on the door. Everyone turned to the door, seeing Joe and Miano standing next to each other. Miano looked uncomfortable at everyone in the room. Joe quickly walked in leaving Miano behind.
“Amore, you scared me to death. Do you want to give this old man of yours a heart attack at his age?”
Tears of Joy weld up in Joe’s eyes as he looked at Amore. He was thankful she was alive and awake. Tears ran over Amore’s cheeks as she looked at Joe.
“Oh, Joe come here and give me a hug.”
Joe walked forward and wrapped his arms around Amore. Amore softly patted him on the back. Joe pulled back from the hug and looked at Miano still standing uncomfortably in the doorway. Miano scratched the back of his head nervously. Joe looked back at Amore,
“You know Amore, I always knew in my heart that piece of shit Richard could not have been your father. Look how blessed you are to have such an amazing family around you now. I think you already heard that Miano is your biological father, and thank goodness for that.”
Joe looked back at Miano and motioned with his hand for Miano to come toward them.
“Come here son, come meet your amazing daughter.”
Joe turned sideways so Amore could see her father. Amore looked passed Joe at Miano. Overwhelmed with emotion, tears ran down Amore’s cheeks. Nathan quickly moved to her other side and gently took hold of her hand giving it a soft squeeze for encouragement. Amore and Miano stared at each other overwhelmed with joy.
‘Life can be hard, life can be tough, but keep faith and remember the best view always come after the hardest climb.
