Chapter 46

'Every minute, every second you fixed your eyes on your loved ones is a blessing, even if it's only a glance.'

Miano walked toward Amore and stopped next to her bed. At first glance, he knew this was his daughter. Amore was a spitting image of Rose. Miano's eyes welled up with tears as he looked down at HIS daughter. Who would have imagined that he of all people would have a daughter? That day when Isabel left him, she left with his heart. He could not bear to be with anyone else but her, and now he is looking at their daughter. So how does one describe this feeling? This amazing, but also painful feeling of meeting your daughter for the first time. Painful, because he never got the chance to experience what it was like to hold her when she was born, to feel the tremendous love that fills your heart when you hold that amazing tiny little person in your arms for the first time, he never got the chance to see the first time she laughed, cried, got hurt... but the most unbearable part is knowing the awful life she endured, and he wasn't there to protect her.

'How... how could Isabel keep something like this away from me, she left with that man when she was pregnant with MY daughter... Why... why... I thought we loved each other back then... But one thing is for certain, I am extremely grateful to finally have the chance to get to know this amazing woman, who I can call my daughter... my blood... and from now on until I take my last breath, I will love her and protect her with everything I have.' Miano thought to himself as he looked down at Amore.

"Ahem" Miano cleared his throat, then quickly wiped the tears away with the back of his hand...

"Hello Amore, I am extremely honored to meet you. You are one incredible woman. You just keep saving lives, even if it's giving up your own. I still owe you a thank you for saving my life." Miano tilted his head and smiled at Amore. "But please... stop jumping in front of bullets, that's not okay... I just found you and don't ever want to lose you again." Miano automatically reached out his hand and caressed Amore's head.

Amore smiled up at him, then she looked around at all the people standing in the room, all these people in this room were her family and for that, she was beyond thankful. She looked back at Miano.

"I will try my best, but you see, these things just kind of happens."

"Well then Nathan, me, and you need to talk about her safety, we need to change that."

Amore looked with wide eyes at Miano and then at Nathan. Nathan nodded his head at Miano in agreement.

"Yes, Sir, I agree with you."

Amore just shook her head. She knew from now onwards nothing will be the same. Amore closed her eyes and leaned against Nathan's arm. Amore suddenly felt drained. Nathan looked down at Amore,

"I think this has been quite a day for Amore. She needs her rest. You all can come back tomorrow." Nathan said in a nonnegotiable tone.

Rachel frowned at Nathan. "Hey... you can't tell your mother what to do! I agree with you though, Amore needs her rest. We will see you later... NOT tomorrow, tomorrow is too far away, and I will not let you keep this beautiful soul to yourself."

Before Nathan could say anything, Rachel walked up to him and kissed him on the cheek, she leaned down towards Amore and kissed her also on the cheek.

"I'll wait for you in the car Steven, I know you have someone to discuss with Nathan, I'll see the rest of you later" Rachel gave a small wave and walked out of the room.

Amore let out a giggle. She truly likes her mother-in-law. She could not wait to spend time with her.

Nathan shook his head. 'No one could ever win against his mother, that's one stubborn woman.' Nathan thought to himself.

Miano and Dr. Martin greeted Amore and told her they would see her tomorrow morning. They didn't want to tire her out. They greeted everyone else and left. Carolyne had made herself comfortable on the couch and was busy typing on her phone.

"You're not going to leave, are you?" Nathan asked irritated.

She slightly looked up, "Nope," and then continued looking at her phone.

A nurse came in with Amore's pain relievers. She injected it into Amore's IV and left. Nathan lowered Amore's bed and gently tucked her in. He leaned forward kissing her on the forehead, and then gently stroked her cheek. Amore leaned into his hand with her eyes closed.

"I will be right back. My father wants to quickly discuss something with me." Nathan whispered to Amore.

Amore nodded at him with her eyes closed. Nathan and Steven walked towards the door. Nathan stopped a few feet away from Carolyne and looked at her.

"You better watch over Amore if you want to stay."

Carolyne looked up from her phone and frowned at him. "Duh... of course, I will." She ignored him then stood up and walked over to Amore taking the seat next to her bed.

Nathan shook his head and walked out with Steven.

"Can we talk in the hall dad? What is so important that we need to talk about it now?" Nathan asked frustrated.

"Let's go and take a walk outside, the fresh air will do you good. Amore will be fine, Nathan, and besides Carolyne is with her." Steven replied in a gentle tone.

Nathan looked with uncertainty at the door. Steven placed his hand on Nathan's back and ushered him forward.

"Okay, fine but we have to be quick," Nathan said.

As they walked outside, Steven looked proudly at his son.

"Okay dad, we are outside, what did you want to speak to me about?"

Steven kept on walking ignoring Nathan's rushed tone.

"Dad?" Nathan said then quickly runs to catch up to Steven.

Steven stopped at a park bench and motioned for Nathan to take a seat. Nathan quickly took a seat and Steven slowly took the seat beside Nathan. Steven looked into the distance and then turned towards Nathan.

"I am very proud of you Nathan... you chose an amazing wife, and you are doing incredibly well in your career. You know your mom and I never forced you into anything you didn't want to do, but your mom and I had a talk. We want you to give Amore a better and safer future. We want you to take over the company, son."

Nathan looked away from his dad and started into the distance. Nathan knew deep down his father was right, but did he really want to take over his father's business? Was it something he wanted to do for the rest of his life? He also wanted to give Amore a better future, but was this the right way? Nathan runs his hand through his hair and looked back at Steven.

"Thank you, dad, but I will need to discuss this with Amore, this involves her as well."

"Of course, I expected that. Remember son, we are not forcing you into anything, we are only giving you an option. This decision still lies with you and Amore."

Nathan nodded, "Thank you, dad."

Amore opened her eyes and looked at Carolyne sitting next to her,

"Hey... you." Amore said in a shaky voice.

Carolyne looked up from her phone seeing Amore looking at her with sleepy eyes.

"Hey... do you need anything? Water? Do you have pain?" Carolyne asked while she immediately moved to the edge of her seat out of concern.

"I... ahem..." Amore cleared her throat. "Can you do me a favor please?"

"Yes.... Of course, what do you need?"

"I... I need to get in touch with my mom, without Richard knowing ... can you help me?"

Carolyne looked surprised at Amore, out of everything, this was the last thing she expected Amore to ask her.
