Chapter 4 Song: Telephones - Vacations
It was a beautiful autumn evening, it was cool and the leaves danced in the slight breeze. The trees Infront of our house that had already lost 50% of their leaves, had several oranges and yellow leaves, hanging from their branches. By the time every last leaf fell I would know it indicated winter time.
I was five years old, maybe six and was with a boy who was the same age of me and looked just like me. My brother. No, more than that. My twin.
We laughed as we continuously piled up the leaves and jumped into them in our autumn jackets. We enjoyed ourselves until our mom called us in as it was getting dark and cold and dinner was ready. "Kids dinner! Where is your sister?" My mom asked my brother. I then suddenly jumped out of the leaves I was hiding under. We all laughed for a while until me and my twin, approached our front door.
"Y/n, wake up Frypan's almost done making breakfast." Newt awoke me from my deep sleep. I began to let a couple of tears fall. I remembered my twin brother and my mom! I had a family! But where were they now? Were they looking for me? Worried sick at home? Were they even alive? I sobbed doubting if I would ever see them again.
Newt quickly sat on the edge of my bed looking concerned. "Are you alright love? Did you get a memory?" I almost forgot he was there, "Newt I- I remember my brother! My twin brother and even my mom we were little and, and I just don't know where he is now!" I cried out. Newt hugged me. "I know it's hard, and we can blame the shuck creators for that! But I can guarantee you when we get out of this place, we will find your twin and your mom again. I can assure you they miss you just like you miss them."
That helped a lot. "Thanks Newt," I said while hugging back. We let go and he wiped one of my tears with his thumb. "Let's go to your job tryouts now alright y/n?" I nodded and got up.
"Oh I almost forgot!" Newt said as he ran out the room real fast. He came back with a carboard box labeled "For the girl" in big lettering. This came up with you in the box and it's, well for you! Alby wanted to open it but I convinced him other wise just incase it's personal. Anyways, I'll leave you to it and meet you back at the cafeteria in ten. There's probably clothes and other girl stuff in there for you to get ready. See ya y/n." He said as he placed the box on a side table next to his bed. He left and went on his way to get some food.
I starred at the door which he left through until I snapped out of my daze and opened up the box. Inside, there was a hairbrush with a couple of hair ties, toothbrush, razor, multiple sets of clothes and undergarments, special shower products for girls, deodorant, and tampons and pads. Great. Stuck with a bunch of boys and I still get my period. Better hope I don't get my first period without knowing and all the boys see my bloodstain. I tried not worrying about that yet and decided to focus on getting ready. I placed the box under my bed while I took out a fresh set of clothes and the hairbrush.
I brushed through my knotted hair and grabbed a hair tie for later and changed into the new clothes. I looked into Newt's tiny mirror he had on his desk and saw I looked decent and walked to get some breakfast.
I grabbed a tray and filled it with eggs, fruit, and what I'm assuming was sausage as I thanked Frypan for the meal once again. I looked at the tables and saw Minho wave me over to his table which consisted of Newt and Chuck. I smiled and made my way over. "Hey y/n," Minho cheekily grinned, "Looking cute as always." I took my seat next to him and across from Newt and rolled my eyes, already used to Minho's antics and flirtatious attitude. Newt made a face at his comment which I couldn't really understand at the moment.
"Morning guys!" I said directed to everyone. They all responded and we continued to eat and make small conversation. At some point after our group discussion about ice-cream, Chuck looks at me. "So what was in that box that was directed to you y/n?" Chuck asked curiously. I stopped eating and looked at Minho and Newt who also leaned forward, eager to hear what was in the box as well. "Well," I began, "There was some clothes, a hairbrush, girl shampoo and conditioner other stuff like that and..." I paused as my cheeks began to become red from embarrassment. "And what?" Minho asks innocently. "And stuff for my...period." I explained as a I looked down as I probably looked like a tomato at this point. "Period?" Chuck questions. "What's th-" "Okayyy it's time for y/n to try out for her jobs" Newt interrupts as he slams onto the table and stands up rushing over to me. He grabs my hand and quickly pulls me up dragging me along with him away from the table, "Bye guys see you later! Let's go y/n!" Newt rushes.
I laugh at Newt as he brings me out of the busy eating area. Before we leave I hear Minho say to Chuck, "So once a month, girls-" Before I could hear him continue to explain a menstrual cycle and the birds and the bees to Chuck me and Newt are outside. We are now both laughing, still holding hands.
"Thanks Newt," I am able to get out while struggling to breath. "Hey I just saved your arse you owe me!" Newt says while we begin to calm down. "Arse" I say, mocking his British accent as he finally lets go of my hand to sassily put his hands on his hips and look away from me with an angry expression as a joke. We both break out laughing again. "Okay let's go find you a job."
