A month has gone by surprisingly fast. I've been closer than ever to Newt and we spend everyday together. Ever since watching the stars that one night, we have been inseparable. We always found a way to make each other smile and laugh and we were always together.
I'm still super close with Minho and Chuck they're basically like brothers to me. I've been able to tolerate the Glade even though it's a teenager torture system. I have lots of friends and fun memories.
Today was greenie day and that meant there was going to be a bonfire. I absolutely loved the bonfires. I always looked forward to them because it's the one night of the year everyone comes together. We are carefree and forget about all the troubles and stresses of the glade. They were always super fun and I get to spend quality time with the people I care about. Minho always out all day running, and besides meals its one of the only times I get to see him. I was thrilled for tonight.
I was working in the gardens with Newt today. Today's job was lowkey because everyone was too focused on the bonfire. We just had to clean up around the gardens. Right now, Newt and I were picking so weeds out the garden. "So then Minho was in the bathroom for like 45 minutes I'm not even kidding. And I'm not finished yet, he didn't even shower, get dressed, brush his teeth or anything," I was listening inventively while Newt continued telling the story. He was talking while working and I was admiring how well the sun hit him. It really brought out his brown eyes and freckles. I smiled. He looks up, getting to the main point of his story, holding a weed in his hand, "The whole entire time, he was doing his hair!" Newt finished with a cheesy smile on his face. I bursted out into laughter. I could totally picture in my head Minho making sure every piece of his hair was down in the mirror and Newt banging on the door to hurry up.
Just then, the alarm for the box went off. Newt got up and he held out his hand to help me out and I grabbed his hand. My stomach suddenly went all queasy, but I guess it was just from laughing to hard.
Newt and I were jogging like every other boy toward the box. Newt made his way through the boys in the front so he could get a better look at the new greenie. Newt grabbed my wrist and dragged me along. After squeezing through some boys, Newt was in the front, but I was still behind him and didn't have a good view.
The box finally came to the top and I noticed Gally jumped down. "Day one Greenie, rise and shine." I noticed Gally was a little harsh with the boy by the tone of his voice. I felt bad for the guy, he was probably really confused and frightened. However, I still didn't have a good view.
The boy pushed through the crowd and started running, sprinting actually. He seemed pretty fast. Maybe he could be a runner. And just on queue, he face planted. All the boys were laughing and I couldn't help but feel badly for him. Even Newt was laughing, to which I quickly rolled my eyes and smacked his arm. Newt shrugged and said sorry and I just gave him a glare.
When everyone finally settled down from all the commotion, me and Newt spotted the new boy talking to Alby. I still didn't get a clear view of the boy and I was honestly curious to meet him. Newt and I walked to them. Alby turned to us and said, "Greenbean, meet Newt and y/n, when I'm not around Newt's in charge. Y/n and him are always together, so if you ever need either of them, you know where to look." I turned to the new Glader with a smile and studied him while Newt shook his hand. He had the same eye color as me and even the same hair color and similar texture. "It's a good thing your always around them." Newt said. I shook his hand too. When our hands touched my smile faded and my eyes went wide. He was just so, familiar. I think he seemed to realize too because he had the same reaction. I thought for a second about any memory with this boy, zoning out the conversation Newt and Alby were having. I think they were saying something about me being the only girl, but I was personally in my own world.
I was snapped out of my daze when Newt got my attention back, "Y/n? Hello?" I shook my head and turned to him, "sorry!" "We gotta start setting up the bonfire for Thomas now , love." Newt said, with his hand on my back while guiding me towards where we had to go. I got that same feeling in my stomach again. "Thomas?" I asked. "Yeah that's what the new greenie said his name was while you zoned out."
Thomas. I thought. I froze in my spot, my mouth open, I then realized why that name sounded so familiar, why I got a feeling I new him. "Thomas!" I exclaimed whipping my head so fast towards Newt. Newt gave me a questionable Newt. "Thomas, he's..he's my twin brother!" I jumped with the biggest smile on my face. I quickly hugged Newt, "I found my twin!" Newt hugged me back, "That's great y/n!" "I have to go and tell him right now!" I said pulling back. I was more excited than ever. "Bye Newt! I need to find him!" I cheered, basically like a crazy person and then kissed Newt on the cheek goodbye. I then started to run to where Thomas was and I didn't even realize what I just did. I went red, like beat red, like a tomato. I wondered why I even did that in the first place but was too distracted and was still was sprinting to find Thomas.
I approached Thomas who was with Chuck by the Homestead. I was out of breath, one of the reasons I wasn't a runner myself. They both turned to me with confused expressions. "Hey guys," I said panting, "Sorry but can I steal Thomas real quick? It's kind of super, duper important?" I asked Chuck sweetly. "But I need to show him-" Chuck started, but I cut him off by grabbing Thomas and pushing him away, "Okay thanks bye!!"
"Thomas I'm sorry and I know we just met and you're probably super confused and all but-" I started rambling on. He chuckled, "I know already, I'm your brother, your twin actually." I was shocked, "Oh my gosh yes! I knew it I'm so happy you did too." We both hugged. "I know I don't remember much, but I'm so grateful we both remember and that you're okay." He said. "Me too." I said smiling. I found my twin! I was so happy, even though we were both stuck in this place, I was happy to have my brother. He's okay! I was definitely even more determined to get out of here. For my family, my friends, and Newt.
