As I was working away in the Gardens, I felt a few drops of water hit me and trickle down my back. At first I just thought it was sweat, until I realized it was beginning to rain when the drops got heavier.

That's weird. It's never rained here as long as I've been here.

I couldn't help but have a bad feeling. I looked around the Gardens. A frown appeared on my face when I noticed Newt still hadn't come back yet. "Hey Zart," I said noticing the keeper. "Yea?" he answered while getting up from his hunched over position while rubbing some dirt off his hands. "You feel that drizzle right? Does it ever rain here?" Zart put his hand out to see if he could feel the rain. "Uhhh yeah that's weird, it's really for it to happen, I've been here two years it's only rained once before."

The rain began to pick up more and Zart dismissed everyone for the day. The rain was refreshing but I felt gross at the same time and decided to shower quickly before the rain got worse. As I was in the showers, I heard the rain still repeatedly tapping on the roof and becoming quicker as time went on.

Before I knew it, it was dinner time but for some reason Minho and Alby still weren't back yet. Newt dismissed all the outside jobs for the rest of the because of the heavy rain. "What's taking them so long?" Thomas asked. "I am not sure, they should've been back by now," Newt answered. He tried to hide it, but I could tell every passing second he was getting more anxious. He kept tapping his foot, biting his nails, and glancing at the walls every few seconds. I picked up on this quickly and grabs Newt upper arm which seemed to make him jump a little, "Hey relax," I said in attempt to comfort him, "they'll be back soon, the rains probably just making them a little behind schedule." Newt sighed, "you're right, they're probably fine. Minho knows the Maze more than anyone." He smiled towards me and I smiled back. I still had a bad feeling but we might as well stay positive.

After eating dinner, Newt, Thomas, and I decided to go outside, under some shade so we don't get wet of course, to wait for Minho and Alby. Newt was fixated on the doors and did not move his focus anywhere else. I stepped closer the him, then leaned on the pole adjacent to the one he was leaning on. "How was Ben?" I asked in attempt to keep his mind distracted. He switched his eyes to me and I watched his face finally relax. "He's doing better I guess but..." Newt began, not knowing if he should continue. I watched him glance at Thomas who seemed to be lost in his own thought. Newt motioned me to come forward and whispered in my ear, "he keeps bugging saying klunk about how this Tommy's fault. I don't even know what that could mean." My mind instantly went to what Gally said to me the day Thomas arrived. So now two people are said they saw him in the Changing and both of them said horrifyingly mysterious things about him. What could that mean? How could this be Thomas's fault. I questioned to myself if I should tell Newt about what Gally told me. I trust Newt more than anyone, so I did.

I whispered back, "The day Thomas first came in the box, Gally told me he saw Thomas in the Changing and that he had a bad feeling about him, maybe Ben saw him too and it's possible he saw the same thing." Newt thought for a moment before responding, "I still don't understand what that could even mean. Tommy's just a kid like us! How could he have-" Newt was cut off by Thomas.

"Hey Newt what are they doing they should really be back by now? Aren't the doors closing soon?" Thomas questioned, looking nervous. "They're gonna make it." Newt responded dryly, turning his attention back to the opening of the Maze. "But what if-" Thomas began. "They're gonna make it." Newt repeated again. Time was not slowing down, and by now I have a knot in my stomach.

After a few minutes the rain began to clear and more boys began showing up, waiting for their leader and keeper of the runners to return. "Hey why don't we go look closer to the opening?" I suggested to Newt. Without saying a word, he began walking with me side by side as we approached the concrete walls. As we were walking, I instinctively grabbed Newts hand. I was petrified. Minho was one of my closest friends and something terrible must of happened for him to be so late. Newt held my hand back and gave it a reassuring squeeze. Other Gladers seemed to follow us and we all created a crowd around the door. No one spoke a word. We were all eagerly praying somehow they would show up. They had to.

Newt and I were still showing hands when Thomas decided to speak up. "Can't we send someone after them?" Thomas desperately said. "It's against the rules," Gally opposed, "Either they make it back or they don't." Gally's response made me hold Newt's hand harder. "Can't risk losing anyone else." Newt added.

The walls began to close and they still weren't in sight. "Oh no..." I heard Chuck say. "There!" Thomas said as he pointed a few yards out in the maze. "Wait no somethings wrong," Newt said. There Minho was, struggling attempting to drag what looked like an unconscious Alby back into the Glade. Minho was screaming in pain and frustration. The walls kept closing.

"Come on Minho," Chuck encouraged, "You can do it!" All the boys were shouting at Minho, telling him he needs to hurry. Minho kept struggling with Alby's mangled body. "Minho you gotta leave him!" I heard Gally yell. "They're not gonna make it." I heard Newt admit. I looked up and saw him heartbroken expression. I was devastated Newt was giving up. "COME ON MINHO!!" I shouted. Minho kept dragging Alby towards the glade as the opening had become increasingly thinner. Newt squeezed my hand, clearly filled with anxiety. Thomas kept making glances between Newt and Minho which I wasn't fully understanding but brushed off but it wasn't important. I guessed Newt noticed and said, "Don't do it, Tommy! Don't you bloody do it!" The walls were about to close, there was no way they were going to make it. I was still confused between the interaction. Thomas turned quickly to me and said, "I'm sorry." Just then, he leapt forward and ran into the maze walls. Newt let go of my hand in attempt to grab Thomas but he was too slow. "Thomas NO!" I screamed. Then the two walls finally met, preventing anything out inside the maze from entering the glade. I stood there in shock. Most of the boys hung their heads low and went to go to bed. Newt was stood frozen staring at the closed doors, as if they would magically open back up. Tears stung my eyes and made my vision blurry. Newt finally turned back around towards me I quickly ran into hugging him and began sobbing. We cried together, holding each other tight, never wanting to let go.

We lost 3 people. Three very important people.

Alby was our leader and kept us all in order. Without him, the Glade is a complete mess. Even though he seems strict, he is also a really caring and kind person when you get to know him. Alby was in the glade longer than anyone else and had to suffer and go through so much.

Minho was the joy that everyone needed in the Glade. He was one of my closest friends and someone I could rely on. His sarcastic jokes and sassy attitude made life in the Glade a little more bearable for everyone. I loved every one of his jokes, even the embarrassing ones about me and Newt. Minho worked 3 years running in the maze and was the best runner. His hard work and dedication to escaping is the reason why us Gladers still have a sense of hope to hang on to.

Thomas was my twin brother. Even though he is new the Glade, I was so happy I finally met him. I was lucky to reunite with my family so quickly and I loved him so much. In the short time he has been here I made countless memories with him. I was convinced we were twins the second he discovered my crush on Newt so fast. He was curious and I could tell in his heart he wanted to save everyone, that's why he ran into the maze.

Newt and I continued to cry into each others arms. I eventually let go and wiped away a few of his tears with my thumb. We stood up and walked hand-in-hand and in silence back to my room. Once we got in my room I finally spoke up. "Newt," I croaked, "can you stay with me? please?" "Of course love." Newt said.

We both lay in my bed normally facing each other. I think back to what happened earlier and I begin to cry again. I instantly clung onto Newt, making us technically cuddling. "Newt w-why would Thomas do that?" I said in between tears. "I'm not sure," Newt answered, "but I know for sure he would do anything to help anyone else. Tommy did it trying to save them." We both continued crying. We lost 3 important people to us. I can only imagine how Newts feeling. He's known Alby and Minho a lot longer than I have. If only miracles could happen.

I held on tightly to Newt, with my arms wrapped around his arms around my waist. I eventually let sleep take over, and I dozed to sleep.

Heyyyy! FYI I am going to alter the timeline of maze runner a little bit in this book because I want you y/n to spend more time in the glade! So instead of Thomas solving the maze in less than a week...it might be a couple of weeks🫢😳 Anyways, thanks for reading remember to comment and ideas!
