Love Between The Tides

Going to the surface!.

The two mermaids stood before their father heads down as He spoke with an angry tone.

"It is irresponsible, your sisters are only here for one phase of the Coral Moon, Can you imagine any one of them missing the gathering?"

"No your right" Ariel said, Serena gave her a sad smile, looking up to her father going to speak but Flounder beat her to it. "I'm sorry" the both spoke. "It's not Ariel or Serenas fault."
"We...We...we're exploring and a shark chased us and..." "Flounder!" Serena gasped. Now they were in trouble. "Shark?" The king questioned.

"So you went to the shipwrecks again?, Those waters are dangerous." He said in concern. "You don't need to worry about us." Said Serena lifting her head. Her father turned to her. "You should be more responsible Serena, taking your sister to the wrecks." "But I-" "not one more word" the king said angrily. Serena ducked her head feeling ashamed. She felt Ariel grab her hand and give a squeeze, she gave one back not letting go.

"We'll I do worry my little ones," "This obsession with humans has to stop."

"We just want to know more about them" Ariel said trying to get their father to understand.
"You know all you need to know!." "We barely know anything!" Serena said raising her voice.

"You won't even let us go to the surface," Serena exclaimed. "Why do you have to be so strong minded? Just like your mother. It..."
"We are her daughters" Ariel said making a point. "Yes foolish enough to be taken with the human world" "if you would just try to understand" Serena pleaded. "Well, I have tried." "I have tried to understand you long enough." "But as long as you live In my ocean, you'll obey my rules. "Do you understand that?" Ariel's face grew sad huffed and swam away. Leaving Serena with her father.

Serena went to follow but her father stopped her, "I want you both to understand that the human world is dangerous, It got your mother killed!" Serena didn't know how to reply but her father kept talking. "I want you both safe in My! Waters, Do not go back there!" Serena gave a small nod and swam off to find Ariel, already having an idea of where she went.

Serena swam thoughts running through her mind, I wish he would understand, I just want to know more about them, not all humans are bad, she thought and hoped. Once she arrived at the grotto she could see Ariel swimming up to the surface. "Ariel wait!" Serena swam quickly after her as Ariel broke the surface of the sea. Serena could see all sorts of colours bursting into the sky, making it much clear as broke the surface, she looked at it in wonder.

Serena followed Ariel to the large ship. She watched as Ariel climbed up on a smaller boat attached to the ship. Looking through a hole at the side of the ship. She could hear Sebastian shouting at them but  ignored him and jumped up sitting next to her sister.

Serena gasped in delight watching all different humans dancing and singing. All of them were men! But one caught her eye. Dancing and clapping along could she see a tall man with curly brown hair and bright blue eyes with a smile on his face that made a smile come to her face. Not noticing her sister watching someone to. She could hear Ariel laughing as she turned she saw her stroking something covered with lots of hair. she laughed before turning back to the man and her breath caught in her throat.

Looking straight at her were deep ocean blue eyes, the man had a confused look on his face but one of intrigue and wonder. Her heart raced nearly beating out of her chest as she couldn't tear her eyes away. The man went to step forward but a noise had broken their eye contact as she moved closer to her sister.

Thunder cracked loudly in the sky as rain started to pelt down. The waves grew larger and larger by the minute shaking and pushing the large ship in different directions. The two mermaids gave looks of concern and jumped hastily from the ship back to sea. They broke the surface again watching with concerned filled eyes as the men on the ship caught against the tides change. Serena heard one man yell "Abandon Ship"

The ship lit up with bright orange fire spreading from the sails to the main part of the ship. Serena could see the men lowering the smaller boats into the water and getting in them. She watched Ariel swim away closer to the boat, watching. Ariel swam over helping the animal to a boat while noticing a man fall through the ship and into the water. Ariel wasted no seconds and dove down to get the man.

Serena watched above the surface looking for the man she had seen, she swam to the other side of the boat watching and hoping that he had made it to a boat. She heard calling and saw the same man from earlier holding on to tight to the side of the ship struggling to hold on, till a part of the sail snapped off and came towards him with such force it sent him under.

Thinking quickly she dove below the surface searching the dark waters for the man. Serena couldn't find him until a piece of the boat had moved and she saw him sinking lower and lower. Quickly she sped down and wrapped her arms around his middle and pushed her tail as fast as she could. The man's eyes were closed as she scanned the area for something to lay him on, finally her eyes landed on a small empty boat. she swam quickly fighting against the waves, getting to the boat she used her strength to push the man over the side and into the boat. she grabbed the rope at the front of the small boat and urged her tail faster pushing the boat to land.

A while later as she laid the man gently on the sand, shaking him trying to wake him up. He coughed up water but didn't open his eyes.

Serena sat over him brushing the hair out of his face humming a melody, waiting to see if he'd wake up. Serena didn't know where her sister was hoping she was alright. the man lay still on the sand. You could see he was breathing. The mans head moved slowly barely noticiable as she watched his eyes flutter open and closed. His eyes briefly fluttered open seeing Serena before they shut again. she heard shouting getting closer she looked up and saw men with torches rushing towards her. She looked at the man one last time before leaping into the water and hiding behind some rocks.
