Hunter
After ten days of lying on my ass, the doctor returned to remove my stitches. I limped since my foot was still tender. But I wanted to see Gail again and finish our conversation.
I told Mason that I was taking a walk. He allowed me and assigned a guy to follow me. It didn't matter if he did. I could handle myself.
I arrived at the park and found the fiery redhead sitting on a park bench with her nose buried in a book. I limped to the bench and sat beside her.
Gail lifted her head and looked at me. "I wasn't expecting you today."
"I had a slight issue and couldn't leave my house."
"What? Did your adoptive parents ground you?"
"No, an idiot shot me in the foot." I lifted my healing foot and rotated my foot before lowering it.
Gail's brows lifted in surprise before they knitted. "Did you say someone shot you?"
"Yeah, but after I broke his nose."
Gail gaped at me. "I have no words."
"That's funny. Because Masón had many words for his idiot brother."
Gail squinted her eyes while she stared at me.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
"I'm trying to figure out how someone shooting you in the foot doesn't bother you."
"Oh, it bothers me. The next time I see Carrington, I'm breaking his nose again."
"Did anyone ever tell you that you have a violent personality?"
"No, because I don't speak to many people."
"So, you don't have many friends then."
"I don't have any friends."
"Would you like one?" Gail curled her brow.
"Only if you don't annoy the piss out of me."
"Shouldn't it be the other way around? Let's not forget. You barged into my bubble and immersed yourself."
"And you're complaining?"
"I wasn't complaining, but making an observation."
"How so?"
"You tell me nothing about yourself, yet talk to me. Now do I know you're not a serial killer?"
"I'm fourteen. I only hurt people that hurt me. I killed wildlife to eat. I'm not into harming people because I have some sick twisted perception."
"That's reassuring."
I shrugged.
"I'll tell you what. I'll allow you into my bubble if you don't disrespect me."
"Deal."
Gail smiled and nodded.
I glanced at her book. "What are you reading?"
"Wuthering Heights."
"Is it any good?"
"It's not your typical romance. But it's interesting."
"How so?"
Gail explained Wuthering Heights to me. The character of Heathcliff caught my attention since he was an orphan and lived with strangers. He reminded me of myself.
"You can borrow the book if you return it," Gail said.
"Yeah, sure."
Gail handed me the book. I took it and looked at the cover. It wasn't anything special, but neither is chess. After Mason explained it to me, it became interesting.
