Hunter

Since I got discharged from special ops, I had to break the news to Mason about my marriage. Gail wasn't happy that we had to meet with Mason. But it was that or deal with Mason's wrath when he learned from someone else. I prefer to confront the bear head-on.

Some people like to poke the bear, not me. I enjoy tormenting the bear. It makes for a more enjoyable visit. It didn't help that Carrington and Charles were with Mason when I showed up with Gail.

"Come on, Hunter," Mason said.

Gail and I entered his office and sat across from him.

"What can I do for you?"

"Gail and I got married."

"What the fuck?" Carrington asked.

Charles rolled his eyes.

Mason glared at Carrington. "Do you mind?"

"Not particularly, no." Carrington shrugged.

"Carri, I'm warning you."

"About what? You already found out my dirty little secret. So you can't hold that over my head."

"Carri!" Charles exclaimed.

"Oh, pipe down. I still don't agree with you adopting my adult son."

Apparently, I missed a few things when I was on my mission.

"Wait. Did you say Charles adopted your adult love child?" Gail asked Carrington.

"Wait. How do you know about Dylan?" Carrington asked her.

Before Gail could speak, three sets of eyes bore into me. I told you I enjoy antagonizing the bear.

"How did you find out Dylan was Carri's son?" Mason asked me.

"I figured it out since the kid is the spitting image of the gun-toting idiot." I thumbed at Carrington.

"You're lucky I don't have my gun on me right now," Carrington said.

"Enough!" Mason barked before turning his gaze on me. "What do you mean you got married?"

"Hayden and I took our girls to Vegas and got married."

"What?"

"Damn, why didn't I think of that?" Carrington muttered.

"You can't marry someone who's already married. It's called bigamy, and it's illegal," Charles said.

"Gloria could have gotten a quickie divorce in Vegas. Problem solved."

"Then you wouldn't have Nakita."

"Yeah, true. But I still got a kid out of the deal." Carrington wagged his finger at Charles.

Mason's agitation was hitting an all-time high. "You told me you and Hayden were traveling to Mexico."

"Yeah, we lied," I said.

Charles and Carrington's brows raised in surprise.

"We used aliases in Vegas and had an Elvis impersonator marry us."

"And when were you planning to inform me?"

"Today seemed like a good day. I promised Gail I would marry her after she graduated college. So I did."

Mason studied me for a few minutes before nodding in understanding. "Well done, Hunter. You finally mastered the game of chess."

"I had an excellent teacher."
