Three years later.

Meredith.

Derek was able to go back to work full-time again here in Boston.

He's now head of neurology. We changed our minds and moved to Boston when he found out Zola was gifted.

She goes to a better school for a higher education and she seems to be liking it.

The pregnancy was a bit of a struggle since I'm not as young as I once was but she was born completely healthy.

There was one complication with her birth though. The same thing happened with Mia that happened with Ellis.

The placenta tore and I had to go to the hospital and have an emergency c-section but everything else was fine, I was fine and our baby was fine.

He had another little girl and she looks exactly like Derek.

She's now three and has Derek's dark curls and bright blue eyes, she has my nose and little freckles scattered around her nose.

Her name is Mia Eleanor Shepherd. She's a very happy cheery little girl. She's the light of the house.

She talks a lot, she never stops talking ever since she's been able to talk. Even when she was a baby she would always babble.

She talks until she falls asleep at night. She and Ellis are close. The age difference is there, Ellis is 11 now so she does have times when she wants to be alone instead of with her little sister.

But other than that she enjoys spending time with her.

Sometimes when Ellis is home Mia will go and sit in her room just to be around her.

Other times when Ellis isn't feeling it Mia will go bother Bailey or Zola.

Bailey doesn't get too happy about it but he mostly just ignores the fact that she's there.

Zolas mostly fine with it. She doesn't really mind Mia being around, she's used to having annoying little siblings.

Mia's also a Daddy's girl, but she's no more a Daddy's girl than she is a Momma's girl. She just likes company in general.

She's very outgoing at home and with friends and family, especially at the hospital.

Everybody at the hospital loves her. She's not afraid of the big space. She spends a lot of time there and sometimes roams the halls with me when she gets upset or throws a tantrum, it calms her down.

That's what we're doing right now. I was paged to the daycare centre saying Mia was getting upset and throwing a tantrum about something.

I went up there and tried talking to her but she was screaming and crying too much it didn't do anything.

I just picked her up and left. I took her down to one of the empty hallways at the bottom of the hospital, The basement where some of the nurses work.

I held her in my arms and just walked her down the halls as she started to calm down on her own.

I smooth down her little black dress and push away the dark curls that are covering her eyes.

She's sucking on her thumb as her head lies on my chest. I gently kiss her forehead and wipe away the remaining of her tears.

I press the elevator button before stepping into the elevator taking us up to a higher floor.

"No more daycare today," she says before putting her thumb back into her mouth.

"I know you don't want to go back up to daycare but Mommy has to work today. I have surgery and you can't be in there with me," I say.

"I watch," she says. "Then somebody would also have to watch you," I say as we arrive at the third floor.

"I watch me. I'm a big girl," she says. "Yes, you are. Do you need to go potty?" I ask her. She shakes her head.

She's still in temporary diapers until she's fully potty trained. She's been doing good with going to the bathroom but she does have some accidents here and there.

They mostly happen at night while she's asleep. She doesn't realize it because she does it in her sleep, it's an old habit that will wear off with time, and it's not her fault.

So at night time before we put her to bed we put thick towels under her bed sheets so her mattress doesn't get ruined so often.

We recently got there a princess bed ever since she's started climbing out of her crib. She's adjusted pretty well to the change.

"Daddy!" She exclaims excitedly as she sees Derek standing at one of the counters writing in some charts.

He looks up at her and smiles as she starts to giggle. I walk over to him and hand her off to him.

"What are you doing here?" He smiles kissing her cheek repeatedly making her laugh.

"I got sad so Mama took me on a walk," she says. She can speak in complete sentences but sometimes she chooses not to out of convenience.

"Oh, why were you sad?" He says placing her on his hip.

"I dunno, I just got sad," she says. "Do you hear that Mer? She's depressed," he says.

"Sure she is," I smile. "Yeah Mwr," she giggles. I smile. Derek chuckles and kisses her cheek.

"Can you take her for a bit? She doesn't want to go back to daycare and I've got surgery in a bit," I say.

"Yeah, of course," he says. I kiss his lips softly before kissing Mia's cheek and walking off to check on a patient.

*****

"All the kids are put to bed and I made sure Mia used the bathroom before she fell asleep so hopefully that will avoid another accident," Derek says as he walks into the bedroom in only his pyjama bottoms.

"Great, we haven't been alone in weeks," I smile. removing my silk robe to reveal my naked body. He smirks and removes his bottoms before getting into bed and hovering over me.
