Everyone including me was shocked, Cassandra was my first love until we broke up in Sophomore year due to her parents moving to Edinburgh. I thought she was gonna be gone for good but there were rumors about her being back. 

"What are you doing here?" I asked nervously 

"I heard the news about Tessa's mom so I came here as soon as I can." She said walking towards me 

"Cass, you know we're done right?" I asked her, fighting my feelings for her 

"I know but I still love you Jake." She said, her British accent made it sound so sexy 

But I stood my ground and looked at my friends who were staring at me 

"I can't do this right now Cass." I said sadly, "You never replied to my emails." 

"About that. Can I speak to you privately?' She said looking at my friends who were watching us 

"Sure." I said, walking her towards to the outside garden 

I opened the door for her, while she walked to the bench nearest to the balcony 

"The reason why I didn't reply to your letter was because my parents were going through a divorce." She said sadly looking at her hands 

"I'm sorry to hear that Cass but why didn't you message or call me?" 

"I wanted to but I felt like I needed to be there for my mom and Ethan." She explained in a sad tone 

"Where are they now?" I asked her putting my arm around her 

"They're currently in London." she said, "my mom just placed a downpayment on our new apartment, so we've just living in Mandarin Oriental." 

"On Hyde Park?" I asked her, still knowing that's her favorite hotel 

"Yup. Where we had our first anniversary dinner." She said smiling, reminiscing on the old days

"Listen Cass." I said before she placed a finger in between my lips 

"I know." She said, "you don't want us to get back together." 

"That's not what I want." I said removing her finger and lacing my fingers around hers 

"I still love you Jake." She said looking into my eyes and seeing the love she has for me 

"And I still love you but we can't." I said sighing and looking at the ground 

"Then we can be best friends again." She said, "after all that's how we became together?" 

"Yup! Best friends." I said removing my hands from hers, and facing her instead

"Will you be attending class later?" She asked me fixing her shoulder bag 

"I actually am but I'm gonna pass by Carlos' cafe before heading to school." I said, making sure she knows I want her to go with me 

"Can I join you?" She asked, "I was dropped off here by Ella and she has a shift at the Manchester hospital." 

"Sure!" I said, not even thinking twice about it 

"Perfect." She said sitting back and looking at the old couple sitting across from us 

I smiled at her, sat back and checked my phone. 

"We have to go now." I said closing my phone and standing up 

"Oh okay." She said standing up and walking ahead of me 

I walked beside her and opened the door for her. I looked around to see my friends still waiting for us in their seats but they were listening to Tessa talk. She looked happy and shocked at the same time.
