"Jake, my man!" Chris said, putting his hand on my right shoulder
I caught myself looking at the exit, thinking if she was gonna come here too, but I shrugged it off and looked at Chris who was offering me a chocolate chip cupcake from Macy's.
"Thanks my man!" I said happily getting the chocolate chip cupcake from him
"Are you okay?" Tessa asked noticing how I was looking at the exit
"Yup! I'm okay." I said, watching her walk beside me while Sabrina moved one seat apart
I took a bite of my cupcake and looked at the leaves that were falling to the ground, it was finally autumn. My favorite season among summer and winter, my mom and I bake our famous apple cream pie every time, but this year feels like we're finally gonna start selling it.
I noticed Tessa looking concerned in the side of my eye, I looked at her assuringly but she didn't seem convinced.
"Jake? Are you waiting for someone to show up?" She said looking at me and back at the door
"Who are you waiting for?" Sabrina asked, interested in the conversation
I didn't want her to know about Amelia because we just started dating and since my friends know I saved her from her ex. They're now thinking that I'm crushing on her which isn't the case, because even if we have that tension. I feel like we aren't meant to be, so I thought of a different excuse, one that will throw them off.
"I was just admiring the design of the exit door." I said, pointing at the gold flowered design and looking at Sabrina
"Sure?" Tessa still didn't seem convinced at my reply
"I'm serious Tessa." I said turning around to face the table, only to hear that familiar voice.
"I am looking forward to trying the chicken pot pie." A familiar voice said, feeling like she was talking to someone
I turned around and saw Amelia, walking with that guy and her friend. She didn't seem to notice me because she was too focused on talking to them. I turned back around and sat down facing Chris and Maggie who were looking at me strangely.
"Who is she?" Sabrina asked pointing at Amelia's blonde wavy hair
"She's Amelia Thompson. A junior but she's into books and films." Maggie answered, knowing that if I answer Sabrina might question me
"Is she a senior too?" She asked, watching them go into the coffee shop and them talking to the cashier
"Nahh! She's a super smart junior who is taking some of our classes." Tessa chimed in, sounding pleased that Amelia is taking classes with us
"Interesting. So, is she like super popular or something?" Sabrina asked, watching them through the glass window
Chris took a sip of his coffee before responding, "Well, she's kind of known among the juniors. I wouldn't say she's the "typical" popular girl though. She's more like the quiet popular type, you know? Smart, gets along with everyone but doesn't like being the center of attention."
Tessa nodded in agreement, seemingly interested in the conversation, she added, "Yeah! She's not the flashy, attention-seeking type. People respect her, she's smart and talented, especially in her classes."
Sabrina looked at Tessa, looking more interested in knowing who Amelia is. She asked, "Have you guys invited her to join you here for lunch or is it just an exclusive thing?"
Tessa took a moment to consider Sabrina's question, glancing briefly at Chris and me before responding, "Well, we haven't actually invited her to join us for lunch yet. She's usually with her own group of friends, and she seems pretty content with that. We also don't wanna intrude or anything."
