Tossing and turning in bed, sleep was playing hard to get with me.
Harvey had kindly let me use the other room while he crashed in the main hall.
I appreciated the privacy, for sure. But after our dinner, Harvey suddenly turned into an interrogation expert.
I did my best to answer some of his queries, but for others,I pulled a Sherlock Holmes and stayed silent.
No way I was spilling the beans about being an otherworldly traveller.
I dished out half-truths like a pro. I claimed I was from the fox clan, a total bluff I had used on the purple-eyed dude too.
To my surprise, Harvey believed me, saying he had already suspected it due to how beautiful iam.
His compliment made me blush, and who wouldn't? Compliments from a handsome dude like him aren't an everyday occurrence.
He even asked about the bruise on my arm, but I dodged that like a ninja.
Not that I'm cool with being mistreated, but hey, Parker's turn for a lesson can wait. Not right this moment at least.
Sighing, I got out of bed and shuffled my way to the main hall.
But whoa, hold up! Is that a silhouette chillin' by the fireplace? Harvey, my dude, can we not startle me like that?
He turned, sensing my presence. "Lia, it's midnight! What are you doing here? Females need their sleep"
"Ugh, I was thirsty," I mumbled, heading for the water pot.
But before I could grab it, he swooped in, practically beating me to the punch. "Lia, you could've just called me" he said in a tone of urgency.
Seriously, did he think I'd wake him up for a sip of water? I gulped down the water, all the while feeling his eyes on me.
Awkward much? I almost forgot how to drink water properly.
"I could ask you the same, Harvey. You're not sleeping either. What's keeping you up?" I was genuinely curious about what he was up to all by himself.
"Just arranging things for tomorrow," he replied, looking at some dried leaves he had laid out, then turning back to me.
"Can I help?" I offered, genuinely wanting to lend a hand.
He blushed a bit and stammered, "No, no, no, Lia. I can handle it. I can't risk letting a female help with medicines, they can be dangerous" He hesitated before adding, "And besides, I'm surprised and thankful for the offer."
"Thankful? Why's that?" I asked, genuinely puzzled.
He looked a bit flustered and said, "It's just... nobody's ever offered to help me with anything before."
I looked at him, the urge to give him a hug almost overwhelming. "Well... you've got me now," I said with genuine warmth, mustering the courage to take his hand in mine.
His reaction was priceless - standing there like he'd seen a ghost, his tail and ears twitching like they were in a dance competition.
In that moment, it seemed like he wanted to tell me something so badly, but its like there was an invisible barrier holding him back.
I headed towards the spot where he had been sitting before, with him trailing behind me.
Examining the leaves he had brought, I realized they were from a rosemary plant.
This could be perfect for my hair health... I definitely don't want my hair falling out here, and this plant is just what I need.
I glanced at Harvey and noticed he was packing something into a packet. When he realized I was looking, he explained, "I've been treating two females today who have been quite sick. Their illness doesn't seem to be improving."
