Curtis, despite being wounded and low on energy, pushed himself to reach the place where he felt the mark had been removed. His mind raced with thoughts.

He couldn't bear the idea of his pearl being alone with that cunning brother of his.

As he journeyed, memories swirled in his mind. He recalled the very first time he detected her scent in his cave back in the leopard village.Despite the presence of other female scent, his entire focus had been on finding her unique fragrance.

He cursed himself for prioritising scent over shedding his skin. That choice had led to his brother overpowering him near the city of beasts when he first saw his pearl.

When he asked her name, she didn't answer.. nevermind he named her himself.

He thought back to that near defeat until his pearl intervened, with the help of that hawk to aid him. Curtis couldn't help but smile, thinking of how unique that moment was.

It would surely become a memorable story in his future inheritance memories – a tale of a fearsome feral saved by a beautiful female, a far cry from the usual fear and disgust they inspired.

Who in the right state of mind would let this female go out of their hands.

Mainly not him.

After his brother had managed to slip away into the forest, Curtis decided it was time to shed his skin. He found a nearby cave near the city of beasts.and as the sun rose, he went to hunt for a meal.

However, upon arrival he was in for a surprise. There stood a female, holding his shedded skin. She was beautiful and had a peculiar scent of a leopard – perhaps her mate's, he speculated.

Strangely, an intense feeling overcame him, urging him to claim her. But he hesitated. His inherited memories were filled with the notion of taking females, mating, and being met with their fear and disgust.

This situation felt different, though.

There was a peculiar sensation in his heart, a sense that if he took her now, he would lose sight of his pearl in the future.

That was something he couldn't allow.

Just as he was about to decline her as in the history of his memories for the first time, he was abruptly attacked by none other than his brother. Curtis didn't waste time. While defending himself initially, he soon fought back.

Fighting his brother was nothing new; it had been a regular occurrence since they were young. One of Curtis' most significant regrets was not dealing with this nuisance when he had the chance as a snakelet.

In territorial disputes, he had eliminated all his brothers, but this one had always managed to escape. So, whenever their paths crossed, they engaged in battle.

But this time was different. Curtis noticed that his brother's stripes were gone, and his brother easily overpowered him, leading to his  defeat. It was a first in their long history of fights.

Beaten and bloodied by his brother, he laid there, his energy drained. Then his brother mentioned killing his pearl, and that was the moment everything changed.

Despite his weakened state, he couldn't allow that to happen. His thoughts were solely on protecting her.

His gaze fixed on the female his brother was speaking to, marking her as a way to enter the city of beasts. Curtis summoned every bit of strength he had left, got up, and bit her thigh, simultaneously jabbing one of his scales into her chest.
