In this story of chaos and mystery, watch as the pieces of the story unfold by each character as they tell there side of the events in the town of Highland.
I'm sitting at the lunch table with my volleyball teammates and I look at my makeup mirror to check my makeup and touch it up where what's underneath starts to show. As I'm in my own world, I can hear my name faintly called. I feel a hand on my shoulder and jump poking myself in the eye with my beauty blender. "Oww! What do you want!?" I yell holding my now hurting eye. "Sorry, I was trying to ask if you were gonna finish your fries." I roll my one and sigh, "Yes cause that's what's important right now! Sorry's not gonna heel my throbbing, pierced eye!"
I know I went off on her unfairly but I was in pain, not excusable but it is what it is. I'm a pretty important member of the volleyball team. If I weren't the team would probably suck since I saw them before I joined they lacked that killer instinct and direct but with my help I've elevated them. You're only as strong as your weakest link, right? So I tried to make sure we have no weak links. Yes there'll most likely always be some but you can only try your best.
"Faith?" I hear a voice from behind me so I turn around to see a boy timid in posture. "Do I know you?" I respond, I don't recognize this kid, but he knows me but at the same time most of the school knows my name, similar to Tori Vega in Victorious expect I'm no Tori but you get the picture. "I was just wondering if maybe-" I cut him off right there. "The answer is No." he looked at me shocked, "You don't even know what I-I was going to s-say!" I stand up and look at him with my one current good eye.
"I don't need to, it was either to ask me out which, ew, or it was to ask me something that I don't care about like a petition or club. Either way the answer is no!" He walks away and I sit back down with my friends. "Geez, Faith. Don't you think that was a little harsh, what if it was an innocent thing?" I roll my eye, "If it's not that important he can go ask someone else." Guys approach me all the time, Was that harsh? Maybe. I'm just tired of having to play nice when all most guys want is sex or status.
The lunch bell rings and I go off to my Biology class, a class that I'm actually pretty good in I might say. It's just fascinating to me. I get in there and find a seat. We don't have a organized seating chart so it's a 'first come, first seat' type thing. Also it's Biology so it's the lab table set up with four people per table and the person next to you is your partner for labs and other partner class work unless the teacher assigns you otherwise.
I sit in my seat, that I usually sit in cause I usually get to class relatively early, and check my make up if it smeared. Luckily it didn't, thank god. I see kids come in and then he walks in. The kid that tried to talk to me at lunch and another kid with him this time. The kid with him I recognize because he's actually in this class and they do a handshake then the kid leaves and the other who's a classmate approaches me. "May I sit next to you?" He asks me and I think for a few seconds then I say, "Sure, just promise not to be weird." He laughs and then sits.
"I'm Derrick. Derrick Bern. You are?" I smile and reply back, "Faith. Faith Martínez." He looks at me curiously and I'm wondering why then I get my answer, "Your last name and the way say it sounds, sounds Mexican or Latin but you don't look that much to me. I couldn't even tell." I laugh at his comment and observation of me. I get it all the time. "Looks can be deceiving, can't they? My mom is white and my dad is Mexican. So I look white like my mom but also have the ability to speak Spanish." As I explain he looks at me with a fasciated glaze.
"That's a really cool background, I didn't mean any rudeness or insensitive talk when bringing up your looks. I apologize for if you took it that way." Aww, this kid is so sweet. "Not at all! I get it all the time, I'm used to it. So who's your friend that you walked in with?" I ask to learn more about him since he approached me at lunch and I wanna know more about him.
"That's Carter. He's a my best friend and he have been best friends since babies." Ohh, alright they are best friends. I wonder if he would know what Carter wanted from me. Do I wanna know? "Gotcha, well maybe you should tell your friend that he shouldn't try to talk to people he don't know too well." Again, is that harsh? Probably, but I don't know Carter or what his motives were. "How are people suppose to get to know others if they don't talk to them. Carter was trying to introduce himself that's all. He did want anything from you just your kindness and maybe your friendship."
I look down feeling bad now, "I was harsh with him, wasn't I?" I ask but already know the answer to that. "I think you know the answer to that one. If you were guarding yourself I get it, but to make up for it try talking to Carter. Just like your talking to me." I taken back a bit cause Derrick just called me out. I don't really have people that do that in my life. I need more of that, it's kinda refreshing. "Alright, I'll give him a chance but if this goes wrong I blame you." I laugh and he answers back, "I'll keep Carter in check if he gets out of line."
Class starts and goes by, and Derrick and I talk about small class stuff. The rest of my day was casual get to volleyball practice and then after that go home. I wish I didn't have to go home. I don't like it there.
