MRS. K

"You might be wondering who I am, that's not important. I was just talking with your parents about you, Carter." I walk over to Carter and sit on the couch. "Who..Who are you?? Why...Why are you here?" He asks me kinda frantically and paranoid. "Carter, calm down. If you must know I'm Mrs. K, that's all you need to know."
I notice as Carter starts to pace and looks concerned. "What...What does the K stand for? Why..Why have you come here?" Shelby comes over to Carter and tries to calm him down so that he can understand.

"Carter, honey. Please listen to what Mrs. K has to say." Carter looks at her then me then back to her and nods. He sits on the couch and so does Shelby as Wade stands by. "Now Carter, I'm an old colleague of your stepdad. I'm here to understand you. You seem to question a lot and while being inquisitive is a positive in kids and teens, it can be detrimental to the mind of a teen like you, I understand that you are an overthinker. Well overthinking can cause unnecessary worry and anxious behavior cause it causes the mind to overanalyze situation and put meanings into things that don't hold them."

He tilts his head in a curios fashion similar to that of dogs, "So you're saying that being curious or inquisitive is a good thing but can be bad?" I smile and nod, "Yes, you're parents are worried about you and the patterns that you have been forming since you were about 10. They're worried where your overthinking tendencies and habits could get you, if not maintained or helped now." He shakes his head, "But why now? Why haven't they mention this to me before? Why call you and have you talk to me instead of them talking to me?"

"Carter, breathe." He takes a breath and then looks at me, "They aren't able to handle this situation like I am. I'm more equipped to talk to you about this than they are." I can see Carter's mind racing with questions and I need to ease him. "I don't understand, why not? You're not making any sense, Mrs. K." I smile as I look down briefly then look up, "Maybe I should come back and we can try again another  time" I stand up and grab my bag.

"Thank you, Mrs. K. Thank you for coming I know it was short notice." Wade says to me and give him a gently smile and same to Shelby. "Of course, it's no problem. Just call me if I'm needed again and please call me directly there's no need to call you know who to reach me." They shake my hand and then I look at Carter, "Hope to see you again soon, Carter. I can tell we are going to get along swimmingly." With that I leave the house and I am assisted by my driver into the car then we drive away.

WADE

As Mrs. K leaves, Carter gets up and goes to his room and that leaves just Shelby and I. "You think he'll be alright?" I put my hand on her shoulder, "Of course, he will be. I think Mrs. K and him will get along over time. Think is new to all of us." I give her a kiss on the cheek and smile. "You're probably right, Wade. I think I'm gonna go to bed, Are you?" I'm grabbing my coat as she asks, "No, but don't wait up for me. I'm gonna out but I won't be long."

We hug and exchange kisses on the cheek then I leave and drive off. It takes me a couple minutes to get to the location but I get out and walk up to Jim Kirby, the senior pastor at Highland's one and only church, and stand next to him against the rail he's leaning on. We are at a pier and he's looking over the water. "How you doing, Jim?" I ask as he smokes a cigarette. He takes a puff then exhales, "Hey Wade, glad you could met. I'm not doing good. Just trying to prepare and practice my sermon but I have the mayor breathing down my neck."

"Still? We're doing all we can to keep things to a minimum and need to know basis. You've informed the church staff, haven't you" He put out the cigarette as I was talking, "Of course I have, we'll not everyone but the main pastors that should like Marcus and Foster. Have you done the same with the police officers?" I nod, "Same as you, only those who are in the position that need to know." He notions for me to follow him and we start walking down the pier.

"I feel like we should try to talk to The Council. I-" Before I can say trying else, Jim stops and turns to be. "Are you fucking insane!? Do you have a death wish?!?! You don't speak about Them in public! Let alone suggesting or even thinking about going to Them!" I should of know better than to bring them up but I don't know what else to do. "I'm sorry Jim, I'm not trying to you and I in trouble. It's just are we sure they know what they're doing??" He starts pacing, "They have to, No one ever questions Them and you and I know that you never question Them."

Now would be the part, where I should probably give my thoughts and tell who They are, but honestly I'm scared they hear, hear my thoughts, and I'm not trying to get in trouble with Them. "I think it's time for me to head home." I say to Jim and he nods, "I suppose you're right, I'll walk you to your car." Jim and I walk to my car and once I unlock the door he opens it, "You stay safe and keep to yourself, alright? Be very careful when mentioning or talking about Them. You know as well as I do, They're always listening." I get in the car and nod then he shuts the door and he's right, I need to be more careful.
