In this story of chaos and mystery, watch as the pieces of the story unfold by each character as they tell there side of the events in the town of Highland.
I walk into the church and before I go to my office. I go to the Senior Pastor Jim Kirby's office. I knock and I'm told, "Come in" which I follow with. "Hello, Jim. How's your morning?" I ask as I walk over and sit in the chair. "I'm pretty alright but also confused. Foster, why is there a teenage girl asleep in your office?" I'm confused as I thought I texted but when I check my phone I never sent the message to him. "Listen, I can answer that, I meant to text you last night but I never sent it." I show him the text that says 'There's a girl in my office that I helped and we'll talk about tomorrow.'
"Start talking, Now." He says, so I nod and collect my thoughts. "Alright so as I was leaving there last night. She came up to me with a backpack and scared. I gave her a place to crash for the night. A shelter like situation if you will. She was crying and frantic." He gets up and pats me on the shoulder then hits me in the back of the head. This isn't the first time he's done that. "Are you stupid, Foster!? What were you thinking?! WHAT IF SHE FOUND OUT SOMETHING??" I rub the back of my head and sigh.
"She didn't I'm sure. She was locked in my office and I doubt that this is some elaborate plan. She couldn't have looked around or gotten in your office." I see him face plan himself, "Foster. She could have searched YOUR OFFICE!" I mouth an ohhhh, then answer him. "I don't believe i have anything incriminating." Jim paces back and forth like he normally does when nervous. "But you could have things in your office, like notes about the meeting, that could be?" I think about if there's any possibility of a 'yes' into his query.
"It's always possible that I could but I think she was too tired and upset to search." He sighs then walks over to the doors and opens it. "Welp, let's go greet her and see how she is." He walks out of his office and heads to mine. I follow behind him and get my keys ready to open the door. I open the door and the girl is stirring on the couch with a new change of clothes on.
"Hello there. I'm Jim Kirby and the senior pastor of this church. What's your name?" The girl looks at Jim as he speaks. "I'm Faith, Faith Martinez. Sir." He looks curious at her. "Why aren't you at home?" She starts tearing up and we become startled. Before we can answer, we hear the noise from the hallway and Marcus walks into the room. Marcus looks around at the both of us then looks at the girl with tears running down her cheeks. She starts sobbing heavily and immediately Marcus walks over then sits on the couch. Hugging Faith as she cries.
*** MARCUS
I hug this girl sitting on the couch sobbing and breaking down. I didn't know what was happening but my first instinct was to comfort her. "Who is this girl?" Jim and Foster explain to me that her name is Faith also what happened last night. "Can I have a 1 on 1 private conversation with Faith?" They both nod then I look at Faith and she nods, then go to my office. We enter and sit on the couch. "So Faith, what happened? Why did you come here and you're not at home?" I ask her.
She's continues to cry and also gather her thoughts. After I give her tissues and comfort her she calms down. "So it's hard to talk about and say, but I ran away from home. I can't home again. Please don't make me go home." I see the pleading and pain in Faith's eyes. "We can't hold you here but what happened? Why don't you wanna go home?" She releases a heavy sigh and then looks at me. "I'm...My F-Father has been.." Her tears start again and I rub her back in comfort. "He's been abusive to me and my mom."
I take a deep breath and look away then over at a picture of Derrick and Ashley. "Tell me everything." Faith tells me about all the details of last night. Everything that happened from when she got home to when she got church and everything in between. "Oh my goodness. How long has he been like this?" I watch her as she thinks on her answer. "I think 12, I believe the first time was when I didn't know he had a few drinks and I had picked that day also time to discuss me getting my ears pieced."
"I'm guessing the conversation escalated then he ended up hitting you." She nods and I take a deep breath then stand up. "I'm gonna go talk to Pastor Jim and Pastor Foster. You can hang here til I get back." She nods then I leave the room and go to them. I tell them everything Faith told me. "Her father abuses her!?" says Foster. "Maybe she's telling the truth, but what if she's lying just to stay here and find dirt!" I'm taken back by Jim's assumption but not surprised. "Goodness Jim, Are you seriously that paranoid that you think a 16 year old girl would lie about being abused just to get into our offices!?!"
"You never know!" I gasp slightly "You ne- You know what I'm taking her to my home to stay until he can figure is out and how to handle this." I grab my bag and then go to Faith. "Faith get your stuff, you are gonna stay with me and my family for the time being." Faith grins and then runs over to hug me. "Thank you, Thank you, Thank you." She looks over at the picture in her excitement. "Is this your family?" I nod, "That's Derrick and Ashley. Derrick is 16 and Ashley is 14." She looks at me, "I know Derrick, he goes to school with me. We've talked sometimes he's cool." I smile. "Good then at least you have a familiar face and someone your own age there."
