Willow Park
Day One

I love the sounds of birds, their gentle tweets and their fluttering wings. I leaned over to the flowers, inhaling deeply.

"So you dragged me to the park to smell flowers?"

I turned to Gus, narrowing my eyes. "Dude, shut up." I told him.

Gus smiles cheekily. He stepped away from me, silently strolling along the paths of the park. He held out his hand and with a flick of the wrist, cards were suddenly in his hands. "Maybe I can make some pocket money." He murmured primarily to himself.

I shook my head. He was a jerk sometimes, but he was my best friend. He has been with me through thick and thin since me and Amity quit being friends.. Part of me wondered where she was now, but the other half was just numb to the idea of her.

A shine glinted in my eye. I turned towards the gleam. Within the greenery, was a silver-color.. I leaned forward, pushing the pretty array of flowers to the side. Sitting within the bed of flowers, was a hatchet.

"Hey Gus.."

"Where is everybody?" Gus's whisper caught my ear. "Yeah? What's up?" His footsteps approached and his shadow casted over. "Is that a hatchet?"

I reached out, picking the tool up by its handle. "Damn." I murmured. "Estwing Sportsman's Ax. Whoever lost this hatchet lost a damn good one."

Gus crossed his arms. "Think we should turn it into lost and found?" He asked.

I looked back at my dear friend. "Yeah, that's probably a good idea.." I stood up, holding the hatchet in hand.

Gus flicked his wrists and the cards he was previously holding were gone within a blink. Mind boggling.. I never understood how Gus knew how to do that. He tried to teach me once before but it only resulted in a mess of cards.

Our walk to the lost and found was.... Quiet.. Almost too quiet. I mean. The whistling of the wind kept it from being too quiet, but it was eerie.

"The park seems eerily empty today, don't you think?" Gus commented, looking around.

I nodded. "Yeah, it is." I agreed. "You think we'd at least see someone."

Gus rubbed his arms. "Something feels off.. It's not just me right?" He looked at me with anxiety.

"No, it's not just you." I muttered.

The soft groan.. A very eerie soft groan filled my ears. I stopped in my tracks, reaching out to stop Gus too. Gus turned to me, arching an eyebrow.

"I heard something." I exclaimed.

Gus wrinkled his nose. "Heard what? I didn't-"

A woman burst from the bushes.. Her hair was matted and her skin was rotten and peeling, like a carcass. I flinched at her horrific sight and pity flushed deep within my gut.

"Ma'am, are you alright?" Gus asked.

Her response was a groan as she approached. Gus shared an anxious glance with me. Her arms were out stretched with nails that were practically falling off. How could anyone let their hygiene get this bad?

"Ma'am," Gus began...

The woman lunged at him, her hands grabbed his shoulders and her jaw practically unhinged as she clamped her jaws over and over, as if trying to bite Gus!
