It was around 4 in the morning when we got home. Lando and I went to sleep almost immediately, after making a plan that once we wake up we would shower. But I couldn't get a wink of sleep. All that played through my head was the kiss we shared outside the club.
I keep my eyes shut, trying to fake sleep in order to actually fall asleep, but I know someones staring at me. I squint my eyes open and look to my right to see Lando staring at me like he wanted to say something.
"Stop staring, what do you want?" I mumble, not looking at him.
"Huh- what-" He says, flustered.
"You're staring, do you need something?" I ask, finally turning and looking at him.
"What- no." He stutters looking away at the ceiling.
"Spit it out, Norris. You've got something to say." I whisper, trying not to be loud for the Aunt to wake up.
"I just-" He sighs while propping himself up on his elbow, resting his head in his palm as he stares down at me. "I need to tell you something."
Oh boy. Is he about to tell me the kiss was a mistake?
Those 6 words catch my attention and I'm completely awake now. "What is it?" I ask as I also sit up with my two elbows holding me.
"I'm just scared it's going to ruin this." He says as he indicates that 'this' meant him and I.
"C'mon, Lan." I giggle, turning so we were both facing each other. "If somethings going on you can tell me."
"I know, I know." He sighs looking down. "I..." He starts, going quiet. "I have a daughter."
I feel a silent gasp leave my lips as I shoot up and out of the bed. "What do you mean you have a daughter?" I hiss.
"Wait!" He snaps. "Just, let me explain. If you don't want to come back to my place after the wedding, I completely understand. If you don't want to continue what's happening between us then I understand as well. Just give me a chance to explain."
I wanted to ask questions. So many questions. How? What? When? Who? But I'll save them until he explains, because the questions will probably be answered.
"(Y/n)?" He mumbles worriedly. "(Y/N), say something." He pleads, his hand sliding underneath mine as he holds it. I squeeze back lightly.
"You can explain." I breathe, still completely shocked by the bomb he just dropped on me.
"Ok, well." He breathes in. "I have 2 friends- well, had." Lando starts.
"Had?" I quiz, looking at him.
"Yeah. They had a daughter at 17 and 18. My friend, Quinn, he was a friend I met when I went bowling, and his girlfriend, Claire, was there with him too. So I met them together. They were possibly my closest friends when I was 18 and I don't know if I'd be in F1 if it weren't for Quinn." He looks down so I scoot closer to him, putting his head on my chest. "A couple of months after, Claire found out she was pregnant. Quinn thought they were too young for a kid but Claire didn't want to give the child up. So she continued with the pregnancy." Lando wraps his arms around my waist and goes silent.
"Then?" I ask in a soft voice, putting one arm around him and another went in his hair.
He lets out a deep sigh. "Then, Quinn went into debt. He couldn't pay anything, and he was evicted so he came to stay with me. I tried paying for his things, but he always refused. Said he'd get back up on his feet by himself. He wanted a comfortable life with Claire and their future daughter. But he got depressed, so he killed himself when Claire was 8 months pregnant. She was a complete wreck and started smoking and drinking. I was able to stop her until she gave birth to their daughter, Olivia. But then Claire took off and left Olivia at the hospital. She phoned a few hours after leaving saying she didn't want Olivia, so people filed papers for her to sign saying she's giving up her daughter. Once she signed them, they called her parents and they didn't want the kid. No body wanted to take Olivia in until they found her emergency contacts and I was the first one. It took a while but I agreed to take Olivia in after I read a note Quinn had left behind before he over-dosed. I don't want to repeat the note cuz I'll probably break down but." Lando lets out a sad chuckle. I hold him closer to show that I'm here and I'm listening. "Now, I'm stuck with a 3 year old. She's the sweetest, though. So..." The air was silent and all I could do was look up at the ceiling feeling sorrow and pity. I'm not going to ditch him after this, and I don't want him to ever think that. "I understand if you don't want to come back with me to my place in Monaco, but I hope this doesn't change anything."
