Lando apologises to Zak over the phone as the two of us hurry into the cops car. Zak completely understood and said he'd deal with the social media work that Lando should've done after the race.
"Where do you guys think she is?" Lando asks as soon as a bunch of cop cars start driving, including the one we're in.
"There's a house, about half an hour away. Some people living in that area said they saw a woman dragging a little girl into the house and the girl was screaming and crying. They described the woman and the girl and the description fit Olivia and Claire." The police tell us.
Lando looks at me, worriedly. "Did they say anything about the girl being hurt?"
"Bruises on her body, but nothing major." The cop informs us.
Pain swells up in my throat at the thought of Olivia hurt. Lando grips my hand tighter, pulling me closer to him.
"It's ok." He whispers, resting his chin on the top of my head.
I can't imagine the pain Lando must be feeling. He always hides the fact that he's hurt. I'm one of the few people able to read him like a book. He's terrified, and so am I.
The drive felt like eternity, but the second the police start to slow down in front of a house, Lando looks at me, hopeful.
"We're gonna get her back." He tells me. "We're gonna get her back and we'll protect her forever."
I nod, rubbing his hand reassuringly.
"Mr Norris, it seems you know Claire." A cop says once we step out the car.
"Yeah." Lando nods.
"We need you to stand outside the house with us, and try to lure her out the house with Olivia. We won't threaten her, we will tell her we just want to talk." Lando nods at what the police says. "And, Miss Ricciardo, we need you to be ready to grab Olivia the second they step out. Don't let Claire get another second with her, or she will run with Olivia. We'd much rather get Olivia and let Claire run off then let Claire take Olivia again."
I nod in understanding as the police lead up towards the house. Lando gets separated from me as he goes with some of the cops, staying behind a bunch of trees. One of the police officers knock on the door, hand on their gun.
"Claire Smith." The officer calls out after realised Claire wasn't going to open the door.
I see one of the curtains to the house open ever so slightly, and Claires face flashes through it.
"She's there, I can see her." I whisper to the cop beside me.
She nods, pulling out her walkie talkie and speaking into it.
"Suspect is in the house, spotted by the downstairs window, to my left." She informs the rest of the police, to which some of them reply with 'copy'.
"Claire, we know you're in there. We just want to talk." The police by the door says, knocking on it again.
"No!" Claire yells from inside.
I can hear muffled screams coming from inside, and just make out the voice to be Olivias as she yells out for help. My heart clenches as I look over at Lando, who already had his eyes on me.
"Claire, just hand over Olivia and step out the house." The officer says, trying to reason with her.
Again, Claire refuses.
"Just hand Olivia over, we don't want to have to come in and get her. Your situation will only get worse if we do." The officer says.
"Come in and get her. Try not to get burnt though." Claire says through the door, smugly.
