Chapter 11

Mingyu got off the carriage and took a deep breath. It's been a while since he's been outside. He turned around and offered his hand to his master. The Duke smiled as he accepted the help. The carriage left as the two looked at each other.

"So, where do you wanna go?" Wonwoo asked.

Mingyu looked around the town's center. It was quite crowded today. And he didn't really know where to go since he rarely came here when he worked at Lord Bae's mansion. Then, his eyes landed on a stall selling candies.

"How about there?" Mingyu pointed at the stall.

"What a sweet tooth. How adorable." Wonwoo said making Mingyu blush.

The two approached the stall and Mingyu's eyes wandered around. He could feel himself drooling at the sight of all the delicious sweets. Mingyu knew most of them but he never got the chance to taste any of them.

"Anything you fancy?" the Duke asked.

"Is it okay?" Mingyu was hesitant.

"Of course. I want to spoil my lover."

Mingyu blushed and looked away, bashfully.

"Then, can I have this?" the man pointed at the sweet rice balls.

Wonwoo nodded as he told the seller to pack the desserts along with a few more. Mingyu grabbed the food and they walked away. They wandered around the town, stopping at any shop that caught their attention. The desserts in Mingyu's hands quickly disappeared one by one as he kept eating it. Mingyu told the latter everything that happened in the mansion while he was gone and Wonwoo listened to it tentatively.

The loud sound of a bell interrupted their conversation. Curiosity got the best of Mingyu and they approached the source of the sound. It reminded him of the old day. The sound was from the center of the market where people were gathering around. It was later found out that it was a spot for selling servants. A line of people or servants of different ages and genders was presented in front of the buyers. The man who was holding the bell shouted to gain more attention. When he felt the amount of crowd was enough, he started the bidding by grabbing a woman in her twenties. She looked dazed, like out of it.

The woman was sold at the price of 30 000 won and a nobleman stepped forward and took the woman away. The man grabbed another servant as he continued his 'business'. The Duke watched silently at the back of the crowd as the servants got sold one after another. He knew this was how people sold servants but he didn't expect it to be this heartless and disturbing. How could people fight over a little girl to be their servant?

"I still remember vividly the time I got sold to Lord Bae when I was 15. Is it the same man that sold me?" Mingyu stated.

"How did you get sold? What happened to your parents?" Wonwoo asked, getting curious about his lover.

"I don't know who my parents are. I've been a servant for as long as I can remember. I don't remember the name of the Lord before Lord Bae." the man smiled sadly, thinking about his unfortunate life.

"Your life as a servant has already ended. You're my lover now." the Duke said with a hint of blush on his face.

Mingyu was caught off guard by his master's words and he became speechless. He let out a chuckle as he teasingly hit Wonwoo. They left the market's center with small giggles among them. Wonwoo bought a few more snacks for Mingyu because he just found out that his lover was a big eater. They sat under a tree while waiting for the carriage to pick them up. Mingyu split the steamed bun into two and gave the other half to Wonwoo. He put the whole bun in his mouth, enjoying the sweetness while the latter just ate it with a small bite.
