Chapter 24

The doctor finished the check-up on the sleeping little boy as he packed his stuff. The three men stood at the end of the bed, waiting in anticipation. The doctor let out a sigh as he stood up and the Duke immediately approached him. Mingyu stood beside his lover and intertwined their hands.

"How is he?" the Duke asked.

"The injury is bad but he's in a stable condition now. When he wakes up, he will be deeply traumatized so he needs help from everyone." the doctor stopped for a second.

"Whoever did this heinous crime should be punished." the doctor added.

"He has already been punished. I killed him." the Duke replied, looking away.

The room felt silent for a moment. The butler let out a fake cough. He then led the doctor to the front door. But the moment Seungcheol closed the door, he immediately turned to the doctor.

"Whatever was said in this room, stay in this room. Understand?" and the doctor nodded.

Wonwoo sat beside Chan and lay down. Mingyu then lay on the other side. They looked at each other and Wonwoo let out a sigh. As his lover whispered words of assurance, the Duke slowly drifted off to sleep.

Mingyu jolted up from his sleep when a loud scream blasted around the room. He turned around and saw his master was trying to hold Chan down. The boy was terrified the moment he woke up.

"NO! STOP!" Chan screamed.

"Get away from me!" the boy cried.

The Duke panicked a bit and he immediately released the boy. He never experienced something like this. Chan crawled away, trying to get away from them. His body was trembling furiously as he tried to cover himself with the blanket.

"Chan... it's me..." Mingyu said.

The boy covered himself more as he couldn't hear anything. Wonwoo covered his mouth, trying to hold himself from tearing up. He looked at Mingyu, didn't know what to do.

"Chan... you're safe now." Mingyu tried again but failed.

"No one gonna hurt you ever again."

"I killed the monster." Wonwoo stated.

Chan lowered down the blanket as he looked at the Duke with his teary eyes. Wonwoo reached out his hand, cautiously trying to approach the boy.

"I killed the monster. He will never hurt you ever again." Wonwoo repeated.

"M-master?"

The boy cried as he jumped into his master's arm. The Duke tightened the hug, trying to soothe the boy. Mingyu then hugged both of them. After a while, the cry stopped as Chan went back to sleep. And the cycle repeated. The boy woke up screaming and crying in fear only to go back to sleep after being soothed by the Duke. It was a painful sight to witness.

"When will this stop?" Wonwoo asked his lover after they tucked the boy into sleep for the hundredth time.

"I don't know. But the doctor said he would be alright. So we need to be strong for him." Mingyu answered while rubbing Wonwoo's back.

Lady Joohyun entered the mansion as she looked around. The house she thought was home had become gloomy. After what happened to Chan, the home had lost its light.

"Milady."

She turned around and smiled. Seulgi looked sad. The incident affected everyone. They intertwined their hands and brought their foreheads together. Seulgi then led the noblewoman to Chan's room.
