Nimona: He's my adoptive dad! I had to learn the hard way that not all humans are evil, even though some are! Why am I justifying myself to you?! You don't know my life! Now, who are you?!
Mysterious Boy: My name is Kayden. Like you, apparently, I'm a shapeshifter. How can a human be your adoptive parent?! They hate us! Who even are you?!
Nimona: I'm Nimona. Some do, I'll give you that. I was separated from my birth family a thousand years ago when I was young, so I don't remember them fully. I've been around humans my whole life, and this is the only good one I've found. Until then, I had to make it on my own.
Kayden: A thousand...wait... some of us also got separated from family a millenia ago, so maybe your family's here?
Ballister: (touches Nimona's shoulder) Maybe that's why when we escaped the Kingdom, you felt drawn to this mountain, Nimona.
Nimona: (looks at him; smiles)
Kayden: (looks between them) Whatever the case, you can't bring him.
Nimona: Absolutely not! I'm not leaving my dad out here to fend for himself! We came to this mountain for safety!
Kayden: The guards won't allow a human into the settlement!
Nimona: Just a few weeks ago, we escaped over an eighty foot wall, and we've been crossing the continent northward ever since. Just who the fuck do you think anyone is to tell me that I can't bring my dad anywhere?!
Kayden: These are other shapeshifters who have all had bad experiences with humans.
Nimona: (sighs) I understand. (whirls around) Come on, Dad. Let's find another mountain to take refuge on.
Ballister: Nimona, don't you want answers about where you came from?
Nimona: Not as much as I don't want to lose the one person I give a damn about now!
Ballister: I don't want to lose you either, Nimona. I also don't want to hold you back from discovering who you are if you want such a thing. You're my daughter and I'll be here when you get back.
Nimona: (starts to tear up) What if you get attacked by another animal?
Kayden: I'm the only shapeshifter who patrols this part of the outside territory. The only other animals out here are deer and rabbits. As long as he stays in my patrol area, I promise (raises right hand) that I won't let the settlement discover him. (shows free hand) See?
Nimona: If you or anything hurts or gets to him, your throat is the first that I'm ripping out.
Kayden: (gulps) Understood.
